Best Man Speeches

Hey, my name is John and in the last 3 years, I've had to write 4 best man speeches. With the very first speech, I was completely lost. I had no idea what to write, and no idea where to start. In fact, I procrastinated and left it to the night before!

I finally broke down and started searching online for some help. Thankfully, I found this awesome best man speech package. It had over 20 prewritten speeches and tons of sample toasts, so it gave me a great outline and jumping off point to add my own personal touches. I can't even tell you how many compliments I received on that first speech and the ones that followed!

The only trouble is, I think the first speech was so good that it resulted in me being asked to be the best man at the 3 other weddings :)

Congratulations, you have been chosen to be the best man at a wedding! Is this a good thing or a bad thing? The good thing is that you are such a good friend to the groom or the bride, sometimes both, that they want you to share this important moment with them. The bad news is that you'll have to write a meaningful, thoughtful, funny and interesting speech. Usually, it feels like the bad news outweighs the good news.

Don't worry, you're not alone. This is definitely a very stressful task for most men. The lucky ones are able to rely heavily on their instincts, and speak directly from their hearts during the big day. But trust me when I say, that those guys are few and far between. If you have trouble with public speaking, if you sweat bullets at the thought of being in front of that microphone, or even if you just have trouble organizing your thoughts, there are things you can do to prepare yourself for the "big day".

Below are some general tips to get you started, but if you really want a stress free speech that will have both the bride and groom laughing and or crying, then you really should consider the best man speech & toast guide I mentioned earlier.

1. Prepare ahead of time - Always make sure that your best man speech is prepared several weeks before the day of the big wedding. This will give you time to perfect it, practice it and maybe try it out on a few people who will give you an honest opinion. That being said, if you find that you've left it to the very last minute (like I did!) you can still create a successful and amazing speech with these great speech templates. 2. Make it personal, but not too personal - It's important that your wedding speech be personal, after all it's for the bride and the groom. You might want to stay away from anything "too" personal or embarrassing though. What might seem funny in a movie or TV show, comes across as rude and inappropriate at a real wedding. If in doubt, give your mom a call and see what she thinks. Plus, please don't mention anything about the grooms ex girlfriends or how he is "with the ladies". Brides hate that sort of thing, and it will surely cause trouble for the groom later!

3. Keep the speech short and sweet - There are many more speeches that day and everyone will appreciate you more if you keep things short. Most memorable best man toasts are not super long. This way, you won't confuse or bore any guests and the reception can continue.

4. Practice – Practice makes perfect. Read and reread your speech a few times before finally performing it at the wedding reception. Make sure you time it to make sure it's not too long. It's a good idea to even practice your speech in front of a mirror or camcorder so that you can get a better idea of how you really look and sound.
