In the second phase of biological wastewater treatment, the bacteria metabolize the material turning it into a tangible form that collects at the bottom of the tank or turns into slime. Once the material has solidified and can be removed, the water is much cleaner.

Similarly to most biological processes, biological wastewater treatments occur at an ambient temperature. This is an important energy saving aspect that affects both how environmentally friendly the process is and results in important cost savings.
