If you don't know what an authority site is... let me explain:-

Each website or blog listed in Google is given a Page Rank (PR)... this is a value between 0 and 10. The more authoritive the site is, in Google's eyes, the greater the Page Rank the site will be awarded. So... in order to get your site ranked higher in Google you need one way links from sites with a high PR.... this will also increase your own sites' PR and ultimately give it more authority.

Google knows that sites with a high PR need to be very careful who they have outbound links to, as this will have a direct impact on the PR of their site... linking to poor sites will be penalized.

This causes a major problem for new sites that are trying desperately to get a foot in the PR door. Trying to get one way links from high PR sites is very difficult. Google have even gone as far as to introduce tough penalties for sites that sell links to other sites!

If you have been submitting to directories as part of your SEO routine, you may have noticed that many directorys have had their PR reduced, this is due to the outboud links to poor quality (low PR) sites... Even if you do manage to persuade the owner of a high PR site to give you a link, you will only get the authority value from the actual page where the link resides... Not the PR of the site (which is really just the PR of the home page). If the link is on a PR 0 page you won't get much credit for it!
