Blogging is a form of online writing that is quite popular for those who enjoy writing about a passionate subject that they have a huge passion for and a wealth of knowledge about.

Blogging platforms are where you can write your blogs on any subject you wish, and for the writer they provide good solid community based productivity and further progression deep into the niche market or subject area they choose either personally or as a business blog extension.

Wordpress

This is generally regarded as the top blogging platform, that provides free access, but a little technical know how to start up at first, especially the one were you have to upload to your own webhost and make slight adjustments and optimizations.

Blogger

This comes close at a second place for bloggers, but is still a valid one to choose as there are features and tools that can be combined with a blogger account to drive traffic to your blog.

Earning any kind of income from your blog takes a little know how, but first it takes a good amount of traffic to make any money from your blog, but the main sources of earning from your blog should make up most of your online income eventually.

Contextual advertising

Advertising that is based upon either someone clicking on it or actually paying to be added somewhere on your blog, there are many alternatives to the usual adsense route, adbrite, chiktika ads, textlink ads, and many more.

Affiliate Links

Earning commissions from related affiliate programs are another great option, you can add content links, text links and banner ads, plus other related promotional material that you may get from the affiliate provider, such as copy and paste emails, pre written articles (But I would consider re writing those!) and other advanced methods like pop ups and pop unders and peel away ads.

Joint Ventures

Joint ventures work best, when you already have a list of subscribers and you join with a related marketer from their blog and swap things like autoresponder emails and affiliate details, so that a joint venture partnership can be profitable for both parties involved.

There are ways and methods to get traffic to your blog or blogs, and these involve getting yourself out there networking and interacting with other bloggers.

You can comment on other blogs, but just remember to keep it interesting and related to the bloggers subject and if they asked questions or a response from you, then try to give an informed answer that will come across quite well, as there is no point in forcing your links on people.

Problogger job board is one of the top ones that I recommend online as it has a great rss feed to keep track of all the latest jobs that need bloggers, although it is best not to try and blag your way in as an expert if you aren't, but rather try and find a blogging job that will fit your expertise and passion for a subject.
