Blokus is the hottest new board game to come along in a generation. It is pure strategy and logic. Up to 4 players can play at a time. Each player gets a series of different shaped tiles in a unique color. When play begins each player starts by placing any tile of his choosing in the corner. Play continues as the players take turn placing tiles on the board.

There are only two rules. A new tile must touch a tile of the same color and may only touch at the corner. Play continues until all players have either placed all their tiles or have no place to put a tile.

There is Blokus Classic, Blockus Trigon, Blokus Duo, Travel BLokus, and Blokus 3D. Each is described below.

If you're just getting started with Blokus, which is one of the hottest new board games, then you should probably start with Blokus Classic. You can play with up to 4 people - 4 sides and 4 colors available.

The simple rule of Blokus - one of your tiles must always touch a tile of the same color and touch it just once at the corner. In other words two tiles of the same color cannot be arranged side by side. The player who gets the most of his tiles down wins. Variations of the game are provided.

The simplicity is what makes it totally addicting for players of all ages and ability. As you become a more experienced Blokus player, the strategy is all consuming. Hours will disappear as you and your friends and family master Blokus.

Raised edges on the board keep the tiles where they belong.

If you've mastered Blokus Classic with its square tiles and square board, then it's time to make your brain work again with Blokus Trigon. Same idea as Blokus, but with triangular shaped pieces on a six-sided, hexagonal board. Up to four players can compete to see who can place more triangular tiles on the game board. The triangles can only touch at the three triangle tips.

There are raised edges so that the trigon tiles stay in place.

Blokus 3D is a wonderful game to test and expand your spatial awareness and construction ability. But I would say that it is closer to the game Rumis than Blokus.

In Blokus the goal is to get rid of all  your pieces. In Blokus 3D the goal is to dominate the game board so that when you look down on it, the person with the most squares of color showing is the winner. The concept is simple, but the strategy can become very abstract. It really feels like a chess game. 

Four different patterns for play are provided, and what wins in one pattern, doesn't work in another.

Travel Blokus is more like Blokus Duo than Blokus Classic. It is Blockus for two. So if four of your are travelling to the beach this summer and want something to do when it rains, bring Blokus Classic. Travel Blokus the same strategy just with a smaller board and and two colors of tiles - purple and orange. The tile guards are in all of the games, travel or not. I would always opt for Classic Blokus, just in case you'd like to invite more people to play.
