My Financial Freedom Progress Thus Far (as of October 11, 2009)

If you missed out on reading the first installment of the "My Blueprint for Financial Freedom", (or you just forgot what occured), you can find it here.

For those of you who read the first one, allow me to update you on my progress thus far towards achieving financial freedom. I set a goal of making $2,000 a month by June 9th, 2010, and using 7 different streams of income to do so. They are:

  1. eHow
  2. HubPages
  3. Squidoo
  4. Affiliate Marketing
  5. Blogging
  6. eBook Sales
  7. Stock Investment

So far, only 2 of the 7 streams are up and running: eHow and HubPages. The other 5 have not yet been initiated. I have, however, set a goal of having 6 of the 7 income streams active and making money by next month's update. Instead of being on the 11th of the upcoming month like the previous installments were, it will be on the last day of November, and following Hubs in this series will do the same.

My Previous Strategy for Achieving Financial Freedom

Between this month's update and last month's, I've spent a great deal of time planning and experimenting with strategies to reach my financial freedom goal. I put up a piece of paper with my goal written on it and the deadline I gave myself on a wall in my room to stay motivated and on track. I even came up with a schedule that allocated 1 hour to working on each income stream a day, to help myself stay focused.

Sadly, what seemed like the perfect plan of attack was inherently flawed. I didn't factor in being exhausted from my job into the equation, and that oversight might have doomed me to failure. Originally I was supposed to start working as soon as I got home from my job. That happened maybe once, and never again. I was always deathly tired when I rolled into my room, and that caused me to take power naps, cutting my time set aside for reaching financial freedom down significantly.

To make things even more complicated, I didn't realize how difficult it would be to come up with material to write for 3 different websites, without reposting the same exact articles, something I've sworn against doing. I had one day where I was able to write an article for eHow, HubPages and Squidoo, and that was it. I overwhelmed myself, and ended up not staying on track...

Also, eHow apparently decided to go on an in-house cleaning campaign, and they ended up removing one of my articles that was my top earner. I was pretty angry about that, but there's not much I can do but back up my existing articles, and hope they don't get the axe as well.

The New and Improved Strategy for Achieving Financial Freedom

After recovering from that colossal failure of a plan, I spent a few days reworking my strategy. Instead of researching my keywords on the weekend, then waiting until the weekdays to try and come up with something to write, I would research and write in the same day. That way, the research would still be fresh in my mind, and I wouldn't let it linger and make myself grow unmotivated to write as a result.

Also, I was going to approach the research part more efficiently. Instead of simplying Googling the keyword, collecting information, and then deciding what to write on, I will come up with my topics before starting the research, forcing myself to focus in on information that was relevant to what I intend to write.

That solves the problem of getting the first 3 streams up and flowing. As for the next 3 streams I plan on adding; they will be Affiliate Marketing, Blogging and Stock Investment. The eBook stream will have to wait until I actually write the dang thing, and that could take until sometime next year. The other three just need a little bit more research on my part, and then I will start to implement them one by one.

Status Report on Financial Freedom Income Streams

Lastly, I leave you with the current statistics of each individual income stream. They aren't going to be radically different from last month's update, but hopefully that changes for November.

  1. eHow - $22.69 / month
  2. HubPages - $7.93 / month
  3. Squidoo
  4. Affiliate Marketing
  5. Blogging
  6. eBook Sales
  7. Stock Investment

Total - $30.62 / month

Goal - $2,000 / month

Remaining - $1969.38 / month

Stay tuned for next month's installment!

Keep at it my friend and you will do well. This doesn't happen overnight, but as long as you don't give up no one can call you a failure.

@steffer: Thanks for the support! I have just under a year to make this happen, so hopefully I can figure out the secret by then.

@creativeone59: Thanks for the encouraging words!

@Mighty Mom: Thanks, I reasoned I could figure this out by showing others what my thought process was, and hopepully inspire them to strive for financial freedom as well.

@Scott.Life: Thanks, Scott. Motivation is one of the biggest obstacles, but I'm working at it everyday.

Misthaven, I wish you all the best man but I have grave concerns going on my experience. Don't just listen to those on the same trip. "To know the road ahead, ask those coming back"(Chinese Proverb). Also, I notice you don't have ebay and dropshipping on your list.Good Luck.

@psychicdog.net: I hear ya. Don't know to many people who've found financial freedom, but I think I'll ask around, see what others have to say. I didn't put up eBay because you have to pay to hold auctions for things on sale.

@bingskee: Thanks, I wanted to inspire others by letting people know what my thought process was.

MistHaven thank you so much for sharing your goal and your experience with us. I was thinking of having a similar goal, but it has been pushed to the back burner for now. I am encouraged by the progress you are making, however small. Great things begin small.

I don't know much about eHow, but I am sorry you lost your article. Ouch. It is always a good idea to back up your work for times like those.

Thank you so much for the inspiration and the encouragement you have given us.
