Hot Fashions for Women - Bohemian Rhapsody
85Hippy dippy fashion
Somewhere out there are a whole group of women aged sixteen to thirty, who are going absolutely ga-ga for the latest trend in women's fashion - namely the Bohemian, gypsy clothing, or 'boho' fashion style skirts and jewellery. Having already travelled through this colourful trend once, I can attest to absolutely loving it!
I have always had a 'thing' for flowing skirts, peasant blouses and bangles. They make me feel skinny, pretty, feminine and free. Which is probably why the fashionistas decided on a return visit.
Many of us from the 'Flower Power' generation, still cling to the comfort idea, having forsworn control top pantyhose, slim lift garments and under wire bras. Okay, maybe not the bras...
However, the notion of being able to wear something tasteful, colorful and comfortable is something that I, for one, am all for!

Comfortable shoes...
One of my favorite summer fashions has to be the shoes! I absolutely love the way roman and T style sandals make your feet look. Nothing shows off those tender tootsies quite like them. They are graceful, trendy and comfortable - and get compliments galore! I have had women stop me on the street just to ask where I bought my sandals.

Bags galore!
My best friend is always on the look out for unique, unusual handbags. Not the little, all-they-can-hold-is-a-keychain-and-smokes kind of handbag - no...the kind of bag that you can lose the kitchen sink in! Not that she walks around with her kichen sink - she is much too petite for that - but she likes to be able to fit her wallet, water bottle, sensible shoes, and who knows what else in there.
Regardless of what she likes to be prepared for, she is very particular about the look of her bag.

Rainbow swirls
Now we come to another one of my favorite areas - skirts. I adore long flowing, pretty patterned cotton skirts. For one reason, they hide a multitude of sins, and flatter your figure at the same time.
For those of us who happen to have a slightly fuller figure, this type of skirt combines beauty, comfort and wearability, making it a number one choice on my list of what to wear.
I love how the material swirls when I walk - cooling in the summer and warming in the winter - freedom from constricting clothing - and like the popular slogan on your television screen, fashion for the sidewalk, not the catwalk!

Young at heart
Here is something for those svelt, sexy, long legged femmes fatale! Not that I wouldn't be caught wearing anything like these hot little numbers, but somehow I don't think the man in my life would be wanting to follow me around with a baseball bat - as he would say! (Such a sweet man...) He prefers me to wear something a tad more modest - knee length - these skirts wouldn't make it out of the house I'm afraid!
However, for the unattached young thing wanting to snag someone of the opposite sex, and look amazing doing it, these cotton numbers are perfect! They have all the color and pizzazz for the fashion conscious woman who likes to follow the beat of her own drum.

Dance of the Seven Veils
Well this may not be exactly seven veils, and unfortunately, there isn't any dancing involved either, so sorry to disappoint! I think I lost most of my audience with that one...
However, women have been using scarves as accessories before clothing was fashionable, hence the above mentioned dance, and any item used to showcase their strengths needed to be something pretty damn special!
In the spirit of the dance, this style of scarf is a show-stopper. I have worn many scarves (not all at one time though...) and several styles of sarongs, and never failed to garner compliments on the attire. I can't say I've worn them quite the same way as these particular manequins, but they do catch your eye!
For the more conservative
For those of us who don't care to bare their midriff, a fashionable alternative is a long Asian, or peasant style blouse. Most of these are the newer Bollywood style of Boho, but they do have a wonderfully tailored look.
My personal favorites are the peasant style blouses - for the same reason I like sarongs - that multitude of sin's thing. They flatter your figure, keep you in style and are most comfortable to wear. Given the opportunity, I would live in them! They come in a multitude of colours and styles and can be worn either casual or dressy.

The ears have it
Now we come to the section that most women can't live without...jewellery! These pieces have a wide range of wearability, and are easy on the pocketbook - what's not to love about that? This style of jewellery is popular with all ages and not regulated to just the 'hippy dippy' crowd - just turn on the news channel, talk shows, or take a trip to the mall to see how women from all walks of life have embraced these fashion accessories.
These pieces give a new perspective to the catch phrase, "Don't leave home without it!"

Last but not least...
This once-upon-a-time flower-child look has come full circle, like many other's we have enjoyed over the years, and is taking the fashion industry by storm. Once again, beautiful people of all ages are showing off their flair for colour and style, which just goes to show - hang on to those 'out of date' fashions ladies...sooner or later, they will come back with a flourish!

Hi and welcome Cheeky Chick - thanks so much for commenting! I love the comfort factor and now I can be stylish too LOL
Enelle, you need to come to India for some street side shopping...you'll be thrilled! :)
Cool stuff. I'm gonna go put on a Grateful Dead record and go to sleep!
It's always nice to see a lady who is wearing something that looks comfortable ... and I'll second Feline's invitation! :)
This stuff never went out of style in India. I agree with feline prophet; the shopping you will find cheap and cheerful here :)
Feline - I would absolutely love to go shopping with you! If I ever find myself in your neck of the woods I will request a guided tour!
David - I hope you have earphones my friend - don't want to wake the neighbours LOL Thanks for stopping by!
Jaspal - Comfort is what it's about (at least at my age LOL)
Reena - Oh Bliss! My two favorite words LOL! It's shaping up for a get together - better put on the tea!
I love these flowing styles. They are so much fun to wear, though I have never found them to be particularly practical.
Do you have any idea what is meant by bohemian style of the late 1800's? I have seen it in several old books, written in the late 1800's, but have not figured anything out about it, except a lack of corsets.
Ivorwen - The Bohemian style of the late 1800s was all about being released from the bounds of convention, and part of that convention was corsets, lacing, stays that were considered part of the trappings of proper society. The Bohemian movement (I will have to look up the dates and I think it was french but not sure) was a reaction against the strict bounds of polite society - at least in, or as exemplified in the very proper dress. The loose blousy clothing we think of as the "romantic" french look - flowing bloused sleeves, cummerbunds, flowing "gypsy-girl" skirts: came from that style - very similar to the current "boho" look in the loose and flowing style.
LOL guess I'm just a Bohemian at heart!
Thank you so much Enelle! I love that look too.
Ivorwen - My pleasure! It is fun isn't it?
BoHo is quite the craze, isn't it? Just as you said, we of that generation were doing it then, with much the same spirit of being kind to the earth and being free.
But this BoHo style is like the remakes of the songs of our era that have gone past their copyrights...I am reminded of a little drive with my daughter a few years ago, where we were listening to the radio and "Our Day Will Come" (Ruby and the Romantics) came on in the original. My daughter happened to know all the lyrics, and I asked her, "How?" This song was SOOOO before her time. But someone had done a remake, and this song was "hot" among her 13-year-old friends.
Even the Victorian era is coming back in the trendy steampunk style.
Well, I guess what goes around, comes around. Are we done inventing enduring styles? Maybe we all want to get back to, well, something more basic, or something that spoke at the time and still has a new and invigorating voice today, a voice more compelling than our current jaundiced or stunted perceptions.
I think the styles are set and we refurbish and reinvent them each time they come full circle. As to getting back to basics - I think that desire encompasses more than just fashion...
Wow - you have some amazing comments here, Enelle. Love the Kurta tops - but then, I have always loved tunics. Thanks for another fun hub.
Hi RedElf - glad you stopped in for a visit - always great to hear from you! Thanks so much :)
I love this style too. Being a vertically challenged person, I never wear skirts, it just makes me look even stumpier than I am!:( I wish I could. Thanks for the great hub.
I completely understand...it isn't easy finding the right style that suits your figure...but you know...longer tunic tops over tights or jeans would look marvelous!
I love the skirts, its really nice wear something colorful and comfortable.
midnightbliss - I completely agree!
Yes, here is something some any one. I like it...
ehollis - me too! thanks for stopping by :) a pleasure to see you!
i looooove boho and as sally's trove said, steampunk!
if i had money to spend on style, it'd be between those two things. probably a little of both styles. :)
great hub, makes me want to shop!
Welcome double_frick, and thank you! So glad you liked the hub :D and if you really feel the need to shop I certainly won't stop you LOL!

Enelle, nicely done! My figure calls for more tailored pieces on top, but the short skirts are perfect for me. I love the jewelry as well.
Good to know that a little comfort is back in style.
XOXO
