Nothing is as fulfilling as achieving success in Border Collie training. Seeing this breed working hard in the pasture is a proof that border collies are highly trainable and are eager to learn. Herding sheep, cattle or other livestock is quite a handful but border collies accomplish these tasks without qualms and quandaries. They just love to do it!

Border collies are considered the world's best sheep herding dogs. After all, they have been bred to do so - to work for humans to assist with the handling of livestock. In addition, they are also regarded as the most intelligent breed. Nevertheless, that fact doesn't make border collie training as easy as snapping your fingers. In fact, training this breed can be quite a frustrating task especially if you are a no expert when it comes to border collie training. It is comparable to training a genius kid who likes to analyze and make things somehow intricate.

Training sessions should be kept short - around two to five minutes for a puppy or five to ten minutes for an adult. A border collie can master a certain command within two to three tries thus sessions should be specific and focused on a particular behavior. Say for example when you are training your dog to stay, you raise your hands (palm facing your dog) and give the command "stay". A border collie can pick it up easily, but the next time you repeat the command using a different tone of voice, he will think that you are giving an entirely different command.

Every time your pet obeys the command, say "yes" and provide a reward. This positive reinforcement will make your dog understand that he'll get a treat, praise or toy by doing something you want and he'll get nothing if he does something you don't want.
