Are you having trouble concentrating? Do you have all sorts of thoughts swimming around your head at the same time when you are trying to focus on a single task? Well you just can't snap your fingers to boost your IQ or make your self smarter, but certain foods and beverages can help you focus and concentrate. This article explores a few of them. Here we go.
- Fish. I prefer salmon. It is rich in omega 3 fatty acids and that's essential for brain development. Higher dietary omega 3 diets also enhance memory.
- Blueberries. Sometimes referred to as the super food. Studies show that they help reduce the effects of age related conditions.
- Blackberries. Can protect the brain from oxidation stress.
- Whole grains. High in folate. Can boost blood flow to the brain.
- Wheat germ. It contains thiamine which can improve memory.
- Nuts and seeds. Can improve mood and brain power. Sunflower seeds contain tryptophan and thiamine.
- Pumpkin seeds are rich in Vitamin A and E and they are also high in omega 3.
- Green tea. A great beverage that can enhance focus and memory. It can help you relax mentally but keep you sharp.
- Coffee. Contains caffeine and antioxidants that together help you stay alert, concentrate and retain information better. Be careful though, because recent studies do indicate that the more often you have coffee, the less effective it becomes. So be careful with it. Have it when you need it and not as a habit.
- Tomatoes. They contain lycopene and atioxidant that can help prevent radical cell damage.
- Broccoli is considered a super food due to its overall nutrient content. Contains Vitamin K which improves cognitive function.
- Yes, chocolate. Dark chocolate has strong atioxidant properties and contains stimulants that will also improve your mood.
Getting a good night sleep is also key. Don't eat for a few hours before bed. Eating right before you go to bed is not good for you and may keep you awake during the night. A lousy night of sleep will make it harder to concentrate on your daily tasks.
Some people think that the concept of brain food is all nonsense. Some people live by it. Maybe it will work for you and maybe it won't, but it won't hurt to try. The best thing to do in situations like this is to try it for yourself and you decide. Happy eating!

SimeyC-Just go easy on the chocolate and coffee!
I will thanks - I actually love a lot of the foods you mention - Salmon is great - the only thing I probably should do is to change to the whole grain breads....as you basically say, moderation of chocolate and coffee is good!
