Brazilian Mastiff Breed
49Also known as the Fila Brasileiro, the Brazilian Mastiff is a cross between a Mastiff and a Bloodhound.
It is by nature a ferocious guard dog, bred to actually distrust and dislike stranger.
The male is a large dog, standing between 27 to nearly 30 inches tall at the shoulder, and weighing no less than 100 pounds. Females are slightly smaller, with the female Brazilian Mastiff weighing approximately 90 pounds, with a height around 24 to 28 inches.
Their coat is short, smooth, dense and soft and comes in many solid or brindled colors. Grooming needs are minimal.
They are loyal and very protective. They will protect their family without hesitation. They have been bred to be suspicious of strangers, and this means that the owner needs to be able to control the breed's natural aggression towards strangers.
The Brazilian Mastiffs love and bond strongly with their immediate families with a fierce loyalty and protectiveness. They assume the responsibility of always protecting their loved ones, children and even other pets.
