Advice on Recovering from a Breakup and Moving On
58Advice on Recovering from a Breakup and Moving On
Let’s face it, breakups are hard! No matter the relationship breakups can cause a great deal of stress and regret that seem crippling. Even in relationships that were short term or superficial, breakups can be hard. In a way, breakups are like mini-deaths. It’s a loss that signifies a need for change. Making this transition can be difficult. So how does one go about recovering from a breakup and move forward?
You must first acknowledge that relationships are multi-faceted. There are psychological, physical, and spiritual aspects of a given relationship. When we breakup, each one of those facets needs the right attention to move forward with a healthy lifestyle.
The first way to address your remaining emotions from a breakup is rather simple. You should put away items in your environment that remind you of your ex. By removing these things, you will be signifying to your mind you are ready for change. Now, figuring out what to do with the memorabilia can be a daunting task.
Sometimes it seems as though all the items remind us of those whom we have been close with. When there are simply too many items to store, then simply put away the items which bring back the strongest of memories. Some items might be very precious. For many, seeing a picture of the good times can be hurtful. You can save items, but find somewhere to keep them for the time being. It’s as the good saying goes, “Out of sight, out of mind.”
As these things are removed, you will allow yourself to heal psychologically. Your mind might seem to have a scar of memories. This type of wound can hurt and take longer to heal. First, allow yourself to acknowledge that the breakup is official. Allow yourself to become fully conscious of your severance. You can do this through meditating or some other activity that will allow you to raise awareness. Some people return outdoors where they can run, walk, and observe nature as Mother Nature nourishes them.
After you are conscious of the event, allow yourself to realize why the relationship did not work. Some people recommend thinking about your ex’s bad qualities. However, perhaps think of these qualities not as “bad,” but as qualities that did not match your personality. By allowing yourself the time for these types of acknowledgments, you become more rational and realize your true potential and ability to move on.
As your move towards a rational acceptance, you might still feel an emotional pain lingering. This is when it is of vital importance to become fully aware of your essence. Explore your mind, body, and spirit to find your individuality. When you are in touch with your individuality, you can then realize how you do not need others. You can appreciate yourself and your own gifts.
Reviving yourself from a breakup allows a new start. You can then get back on your feet and start dating again. In fact, you can even start dating as you complete your recovery because it will allow for a new experience and revelations. Either way, breakups aren’t the end of the world. They are simply the chance to learn something and then meet somebody else and have a new relationship.
