The iPhone is Apple's answer to the cell phone and is available only on the AT&T network. It can be purchased via any AT&T location, Best Buy Mobile stores and soon will be available at select Wal-Mart locations. It utilizes the latest in 3G networking and offers all the same functionality that the iPod, iTouch and other models in the successful MP3 player line.
Apple officially announced the iPhone in January 2007. It is now on its second generation. The second generation models were released in July 2008, adding limited GPS capabilities and stream lining its use to cater towards 3G for faster and more secure networking. Second generation models also utilize programming within the UMTS, HSDPA and quad-band structures whereas the first generation relied heavily on GSM, EDGE and limited quad-band capabilities.
Like many of the other visual-based cell phones on the market, everything on the iPhone is done via touch screen. A keyboard displays itself and you can dial, text or access other features via your fingertips. A unique aspect of the iPhone includes the visual voicemail feature that allows you to go through voicemail messages much like text messages, essentially allowing you to pick and choose which voicemails you listen to, respond to and ignore at will. However, voice dialing and other voice-based features are not yet supported by the iPhone.
The iPhone is the pinnacle of smart phone design, and it launched a fierce competition between other brands to bring out the best in each other. If you are looking for an all-in-one device, the iPhone is definitely one way to go. It offers some of the strongest and most reliable cell phone performance, along with networking capabilities that surpass many of its competitors. If you are unconvinced if the iPhone is right for you, step into an AT&T location to check it out. Most stores have demo models, and you can see for yourself just what you have been missing.
