Brief Interviews with Hideous Men is a short story collection authored by David Foster Wallace. It contains twenty-three short stories, four of which have the title Brief Interviews with Hideous Men. The stories are all connected by one ongoing plot: a graduate student interviews various men to help her get over her recent breakup.

John Krasinski, who plays Jim Halpert in NBC’s mockumentary The Office, will adapt and directed a film version of Brief Interviews for a scheduled 2007 release. He will also play a small part in the movie, as will Christopher Meloni (Law & Order: SVU) and Timothy Hutton (The Last Mimzy). Julianne Nicholson will play the lead role of the graduate student conducting all of the interviews. Nicholson can be seen playing Detective Megan Wheeler on Law & Order: Criminal Intent.

Krasinki’s has starred in such films as Kinsey, Duane Hopwood, and Jarhead, opposite Jake Gyllenhaal. He can be seen next in Leatherheads, directed by George Clooney. The film revolves around football in the early 1920s. Leatherheads is set to be released December 7th, 2007.

I think Krasinki definitely has a lot of talent and I’m excited to see him making his way behind the camera. While I never read the book (nor heard of it until now), the premise sounds intriguing enough. I’m mainly interested in seeing what Krasinki can do. The Office is one of my favorite shows on television right now and although he doesn’t do anything behind the camera, he proves that he has a knack for comedic timing, so here’s to hoping that it will carry over into his writing and directing.

Check out this hilarious clip of John Krasinski and his Office co-star Rainn Wilson as they appear on the Ellen Degeneres Show and talk about various things and ultimately have a dance-off.
