If you want to build a website, my easy to follow website lessons will help you reach your goal. In lesson 1 we have already discussed the easy and the hard way to make a website. If you are going to build your own site, please bookmark this website and then go read lesson 1 before continuing.

In this build a website lesson I am going to show you how to download a website template, extract the template to your desktop, and then import the template into your html site builder. In just a few minutes you will have the template installed and you will be ready to begin the simple website design process.

After this lesson I will explain all of the different sections of code in an html template, their purpose and proper use. If you can cut and paste, you can easily edit an html template.

The first thing we need to do is download our free template. Go to this free template scroll to the bottom of the page and click on the download link. This will take you to a second web page, click on the button to download template.

To make it easier to follow along, I suggest you use the Firefox Web Browser. If you do not use it already, shame on you, all the Internet tech guys say it is much more secure than IE. Go to the properties in Firefox and set the download file command to "save in desktop." I would open a second browser tab so that you do not have to leave this page when you download etc.

Now that Firefox is running, and you have clicked on the download, a box pops up (figure 1) containing the file you are downloading.Make sure the "save file" box is selected, click ok.

You will see in (figure 2) a new box pops up which contains your template file, put your cursor over the file and right click. Move your cursor and click on "open containing folder."

The containing folder will display all of the folders on your desktop. Scroll through these folders until you locate the file name of your downloaded template. Once you locate this folder put your cursor over it and right click. Select "extract all," see (figure 3) below.

The extraction wizard now begins. Simply click "next" on the new screen. When the new screen pops up click "next" again. The wizard will now extract the zip files and save them in a folder on your desktop. A new window pops up, simply click "finish." This folder will have the same name as the zip file you originally downloaded the template in. The difference is, it is not a zip folder. So when you go to your site builder and import your website template folder, make sure you do not import the zip, import the folder made during extraction.

That's it, the website template has now been downloaded and extracted. The next step will cover importing the website template into your site builder.

The real work has already been done, it is very simple to import the website template into your site builder. Simply open your site builder, click on "file" scroll down to "import" and select "file." See (figure 4) below.

A new window will open up, this is the import window, (figure 5). Click "add folder." When the new window opens select "desktop" from the left column (figure 6). Scroll through the folders until you locate your website template folder. Once found, left click one time to highlight the folder. Click open on this window.

Now you are back at the import window, the files are all listed that will be imported into your site builder, click "ok." The free website template has now been installed in your site buider.

You have now downloaded your free website template, extracted it to your desktop and imported the template into your website builder.
