Everyone wants to be used by God and wants to know by what standard God uses a person. This article will share with you the main aspects that God uses a person on the basis of the case that God used Mary to give birth to Jesus. I wonder how many Christians are thinking, why God brought Jesus into this world only through Mary not other women? How can I make myself available for God’s use?

Now let us study Mary’s case to find her characters from which we will know what standard God uses a person.

She lived a holy life.
To bring God into flesh through a woman, first of all, she must be holy without being touched by any man. Of course, any virgin in this world is holy without sex touch, otherwise, she can’t be called a virgin. From this point, any virgin is qualified to be used. But after having married, Mary and her husband Joseph still lived holy life. “He had no marital relations with her until she had born a son, he named him Jesus”--Matthew1:24-25. In the same situation, almost every youth can’t behave well. Even when they are still staying at parents’ home, boys and girls try every means to steal “the fruit of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil”.

She humbled herself.
A girl got pregnant without a marriage license or even without a man is shameful not only in 2000 years ago but also in today. To complete God’s will, she didn’t think of her own reputation. She might face disgrace, family or relatives’ scolding and people’s contempt or spitting . But she humbled herself and said, "I am the Lord's servant," Mary answered. "May it be to me as you have said."--Luke1:38

She magnified the Lord and rejoiced in the Lord.
Luke1:46-47, And Mary said: "My soul glorifies the Lord and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior,”

She was obedient to God.
She obeyed God to let His plan be fulfilled through her; also whenever God’s angel called her to run for the child’s life, she and her husband never complained-- Matthew2:13-22.

She suffered with Jesus.
A mother carried her newly baby in the middle night to escape to Egypt and hid there a few years. After he had grown up, later she personally watched him being crucified to his death. Luke2:34-35, Then Simeon blessed them and said to Mary, his mother: "This child is destined to cause the falling and rising of many in Israel, and to be a sign that will be spoken against, so that the thoughts of many hearts will be revealed. And a sword will pierce your own soul too."

She always meditated God’s word.
Luke 2:19, But Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart. Luke 2:51, but His mother treasured all these things in her heart.

She had strong faith in God.
The first sign Jesus did in His whole life was drawn by Mary. John2:3-5, When the wine was gone, Jesus' mother said to him, "They have no more wine." "Dear woman, why do you involve me?" Jesus replied, "My time has not yet come." His mother said to the servants, "Do whatever he tells you." From these scriptures, we can see her strong faith. She believed Jesus could do everything supernatural although she had never seen one. Even after He had said His time hadn’t come yet, she still believed in Him NO MATTER WHAT. How did she know He would tell the servants to do something? By her faith, she firmly trusted He would do. So she told the servants, "Do whatever he tells you." So because of Mary’s strong faith, Jesus did His first sign in His life.

She was faithful to God.
From Jesus’ birth to death, she never told anyone about His true identity even her own children and family. John 7:2-5. “But when the Jewish Feast of Tabernacles was near, Jesus' brothers said to him, "You ought to leave here and go to Judea, so that your disciples may see the miracles you do. No one who wants to become a public figure acts in secret. Since you are doing these things, show yourself to the world." For even his own brothers did not believe in him.” His brothers thought Jesus was just like them. they came out of the same mother’s womb and grew up together. Therefore, they thought Jesus made no difference from them. After Jesus had been arrested, His disciples were scattered. Standing beside the Cross, Marry accompanied Him to His death. John 19:25, “near the cross of Jesus stood his mother…”

From Mary’s characters above, we know, why God only chose Mary to be the virgin vessel.

If Mary could, she would have already presented her life as a living sacrifice to God too. She had been living under Moses’ law until Jesus shed His blood. God established the new testament with us through Jesus’ blood so we are required to offer our bodies as living sacrifices to God. Romans12:1 says, "Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God—this is your spiritual act of worship." Before Jesus’ death, Mary couldn’t present her body as a living sacrifice to God.

If you are a humble, obedient and faithful person, live a holy life, always rejoice in the Lord, meditate God’s word, would like to glorify God’s name and enjoy carrying your daily cross to suffer with God, are really willing to present your life as a living sacrifice to God, how does God not use you?!

Behold. Here, Joseph, Mary’s husband was a very important man too. He was obedient to God and supported her quietly without any complaint even though he was poor. So that is why God instructs us not to bear the yoke with unbelievers.
