A camping lantern sounds like a traditional peice of equipment for camping becasue it is. Camping lanterns have been around for a very long time, however in recent times have evolved. Dated right back lights were always needed when camping, and were generally in the form of a camping lantern as they were easy to carry, however still provided a lot of light. There are many types of lanterns now that you can get to light up your campsite and they all have their advantages and disadvantages, it all depends on what is important to you and your camping experience. Firstly there is the light issue. The camping lantern that gives off he best light is without a doubt the gas powered lantern. Gas is so efficient and burns so strongly that it will always give off the best light, and for the longest time. Then come in the liquid fueled lanterns, which also give off pretty good light, followed by the battery and solar styles. The reason the battery style can be a bit of a downer with the light is because it runs sole off the battery power and when that starts to drain so does the strength of the light. the same goes for the solar power, and this can be an issue especially amongst very serious campers who need great light all the time.

The next issue is of course the safety issue. If you have kids and you go camping with them or if you take your pets camping with you then you will find that this is one of the most important considerations that you need to make when you are choosing your camping lantern. The battery style is renowned as the safest because it has no open flame. Because of this lack of open flame it does not heat up and it is in no dangers of causing a fire when it is knocked over. This goes the same for the solar style. These are the safest style of camping lanterns available, but you have to take the fact that the lack of open flame means that the light won't be as good. The same for the gas and liquid fueled lanterns, as we said the open flame in them can heat up the lantern and if you touch it it can be really quite hot and you are at risk of burning yourself. It is also dangerous with pets around because they could easily knock it over and cause i disaster, although they are pretty touh and not easy to break, stranger things have happened and you always have to take safety into consideration when you are buying your camping lantern.
