Captain America

Captain America has the longest (but maybe not the best) history in Marvel Comics movies.
Cap was created by Joe Simon and Jack Kirby and first appeared in Captain America Comics #1 in 1941.
Steve Rogers, the original shield slinger, may be gone, but his legacy lives on.....

Well he's not REALLY gone now is he?

Captain America (1944)

The character started out with a bang (for back then) in 1944 in the Captain America serial.
In the serial, Cap wasn't Steve Rogers, he was District Attorney Grant Gardner.
He didn't carry his trademark indestructible shield.
There was no Bucky.
The costume was "based" on Cap's.
So it was pretty much Captain America in name only.
But the serial was a hit. Even the critics liked it.
In "The Great Movie Serials: Their Sound and Fury", by Jim Harmon and Donald F. Glut, the serial is referenced as "the apex of the traditional action film fight...in the opinion of many cliffhanger enthusiasts."
In "Serials: Suspense and Drama By Installment", Raymond Steadman says that the serial was ""much better serial than either Batman or The Masked Marvel".

3 Dev Adam (1973)

Wow.
People complain about how US movie makers cant stay true to a comic book character in a movie.....
Try an evil Spider-Man (that doesn't shoot webs but carries a switchblade) leading a gang, Captain America (again with no shield) and Lucha Libre star Santo in one movie.
And no, this isn't the real El Santo.
The film was made in Turkey and none of the characters were used with permission.

BTW, I think you can watch the entire movie on YouTube.

Captain America (1990)

This mercifully went straight to video.
At least they did have the correct Captain America costume, HIS SHIELD! (finally) and even the Red Skull.
Although now the Red Skull is Italian.

The First Avenger: Captain America (2011)

Now everyone is waiting to see how Marvel will do with the new Captain America movie.
Can't wait to see it?
Well Marvel has already teased us with it.
You can see Cap's shield in a scene in Iron Man.....

See it right underneath Stark's right arm?
See it right underneath Stark's right arm?

And in a deleted scene in The Incredible Hulk you can see Cap frozen in the Arctic.

"The First Avenger: Captain America" will be directed by Joe Johnston, produced by Marvel Studios and distributed by Paramount Pictures.
I know Johnston may not be the most stellar director, but he did do one of my favorite cult films of all time "The Rocketeer".

The film is coming out July 22, 2011.
Why not July 4th?

Here are all the actors that have been rumored for the role that I have heard of....
Remember, these are rumors and most of them have been squashed.
But you never know...
John Barrowman
Leonardo DiCaprio
Will Smith
Matthew McConaughey
Michael Shanks
Neal McDonough
Channing Tatum
John Cena

And now you can add Brad Pitt and Matt Damon to that list of candidates

I was gonna mention them...but since they werent released in theatres (as far as I know) I left them out. I was thinking about maybe going back later and doing Marvel TV movies. The Hulk movies, Dr Strange etc. But yeah, I did think about them.

Thanks for commenting!

Did you just mention Dr. Strange! Boy, I haven't thought about him for a long time. I used to love Dr. Strange (and the Dread Dormamu or whatever his name was). They made a movie of Dr. Strange?

Yep, it was a TV movie. I think you may be able to find it online.

But there is talk of a big screen movie now.

Well back in "the day" when it was first discussed, they were talking about Tom Selleck.

But I don't know who they would consider now.

BTW, Stan Lee reaffirmed this year (I think it was at Comic Con) that he wants Strange to be one of the next movies.
