Alabama senator Richard Shelby is quoted as saying the car companies in America build the wrong stuff. They are dinosaurs and we should let them go! We should examine more closely,Mr Shelby's motives... Alabama made sweetheart deals with Mercedes Benz, Honda, and hyuandi, to come to Alabama in exchange for millions and millions in free land and tax breaks. The Mercedes plant in Vance, near Tuscaloosa, received 330 million worth of property. Consider this, the senator spent over 100,000 $ per job created. If the senator gets his way, and closes the car companies, what about the thousands of GM, Chrysler and Ford dealership employees that are out of work? If we were to follow this advice, Alabama would become Detroit. Our "Big Three", would be Mercedes, Honda, and Hyuandi. I would forward him my opinion, and invite him to forward it to his friends, but, alas, all of his friends speak German ,Japanese, or Korean! Let's write these irresponsible officials and tell them we are on to them! The ripple effect that a collapse from the auto industry would cause, would be unbelievable. The steel industry...the rubber industry.... transports.. local dealership personel. Mr. Smelby, I mean Shelby needs to remember that the Detroit Automakers were know as the "Arsenal of Democracy" during WWII. They retooled their plants and began producing the tanks, aircraft and machines needed to defeat the tyrants of the world bent on destroying our freedom. Who's he going to go to the next time our freedom is tested, the Japanese, Koreans or Chinnese? The entire middleclass of America was started in the manufacturing sector. Without the American Automobile Mr. Shelby could have been freezing his big fat taxpayer paid for behind on the Russian front.

Dick Shelby is the dinasour.....he's completely clueless as to how much the US auto-industry has progressed in the last few years and especially clueless about the great products about to launch. The guy's the epitomy of political slime - he's trying to engineer the destruction of the US auto-industry just so his buddies at Mercedes, Honda and Hyundai can make more money. I consider this VERY Un-American and it's disgusting. He provides hundreds of millions of dollars to those companies, yet won't help the American's...PS.. every other government around the world is in the process of helping their own auto companies. Shelby - you're such a LOSER.

Senator Shelby is a crook, liar and hypocrite.
He said this abot government money for automakers : "We don't need government — governmental subsidies for manufacturing in this country. It's the French model, it's the wrong road. We will pay for it. The average American taxpayer is going to pay dearly for this, if I'm not wrong."
Where was his outrage about the Billions given to foreign automakers(especially the ones in his state)
