The next buzz phrase for Americans is "Cash for Kitchen Appliance". This is going to be the neweat economic stimulus idea. To get cash for old appliances you must have an ENERGYSTAR qualified appliance for an individual rebate. The Cash for Kitchen appliances programs is going to be run individually at the state level.  The program has nearly $300 million funded by the “American Recovery and Reinvestment Act for state-run rebate programs for consumer purchases of new ENERGYSTAR qualified home appliances.” This program makes American homes more energy efficient. It also helps to support the economic recovery of the nation.

ENERGY STAR® qualified appliance categories eligible for rebates include: central air conditioners, heat pumps (air source and geothermal), boilers, furnaces (oil and gas), room air conditioners, clothes washers, dishwashers, freezers, refrigerators, and water heaters.

The State Energy Conservation Office is preparing its application to the Energy Department for the appliance program.  The details of which appliances the state chooses to qualify for the rebate, how much the rebates will be, when the plan will begin, how the plan will be administered and other details must be submitted by Oct. 15.  Main dealers and Local appliance retailers hope that this rebate program will help boosting the sales.

At present, KitchenAid is offering rebates on its EnergyStar products, which are ranging between $100 and $500, issued on a prepaid MasterCard, for a minimum purchase of two to five EnergyStar KitchenAid products.  This Rebate Program is ending by Oct. 17.  Oncor, also has a $50 Rebate Program for refrigerators or freezers in working condition.

So, it's a question of whether it's time to finally ditch your old appliances for newer, more energy-efficient models. If you're in the market for some kitchen upgrades, your timing couldn't be better.  Consumers should check with their state's energy department for details on when the rebates will be available.
