Cell Phone vs. Landline
77
Overview
Everyday more and more cell phone users are ditching their land line phone and using their mobile phone as their only phone. For some, this is an easy decision. They are always on the go, and they are never home. Why pay for a phone you never use? For others, it is a cost management issue. It is just cheaper to have a land line than invest in a cell phone. Depending on the situation, ditching your land line might be the right choice for you.
Ask yourself how often you use your cell phone. If you use it more than your land line, chances are you would save money by canceling your traditional phone service. However, depending on your wireless plan, it may just be more cost effective to have a single land line as opposed to both.
College students in particular are going the cell phone only route, because they are always on the go. If you are never home, what is the point of having a phone that is never used? The opposite also applies: If you are always home, why have a cell phone that is never used? Again, it depends on your circumstances.
Some find that the balance between both, and they find phone plans that work without costing an arm and a leg. Determine how much you use both phones, and then figure out if you could survive without one or the other. If you can, ditching the land line might just be the easiest way to save some money and keep talking to your family and friends whether you are at home or on the go.

I switched to making outgoing calls on my new mobile because I get so many free minutes. I am keeping my land-line so anyone can still call me cheap.
It turned out that by getting a contract I am paying exactly the same as I was for calls on the land-line, but now I am mobile!

FYI Don't ditch your landline or even go the voice over IP if you have an alarm system or if you want to be able to accept collect calls. These things don't work on anything but a regular telephone line.
