Cheap Domain Name Registrations
57For cheap domain name registration, some directions are necessary to get to a web site and these come in the form of a hostname. This 'address' is usually a word or phrase that is the name of the business or site or it may say what the site is about. There are companies that specialize in cheap domain names, and hosting companies often offer free domain names but there is an essential difference between the two. The usual domain names offered by free hosting companies are in the form of sub domain names.
This means that when typing in the sub domain name the hosting company's domain must be included. The trouble with this is that it makes the domain name awkward to recall as it is longer then usual. This difficulty means that it is often better to buy your own individual domain name. It is possible to get an inexpensive domain name with the proliferation of cheap domain names.
Cheap domain names can be free or they can range in price up to around seven dollars. However, if a free domain name is worth anything then it will usually be included in the price of web hosting, so in effect the customer is still paying for it. Paid for domain names can be bought separate from a web hosting package. The prices paid for these domains begin at one dollar and go up from there.
Whether a person buys a normally priced domain name or a cheap domain name the registration process is the same. The first thing a customer needs to do is check whether their domain name is available. The customer must enter the name they are looking for into a certain text box and then decide on and select the extension chosen. The page will then tell them is the domain name is taken or not, if it is then they can purchase it, if not they will have to decide on a different name. Some company's are helpful and will suggest alternative domain names when the one chosen is unavailable.
Cheap domain names unfortunately come with some disadvantages - if the company is dishonest then the customer may never receive their requested domain name at all. Wait for the domain to activate. "This will take up to a week" is what these companies will tell their customers. When the customer patiently waits for a few days and then finds that the domain still isn't active, they also find that customer services doesn't respond with an unscrupulous company.
Finding out if the cheap domain name company is registered with the Better Business Bureau is a good way to make sure that you aren't dealing with a fraudulent company. The Better Business Bureau makes sure that companies are operating legitimately. A regular land based contact system of things like a phone number and address are not usually found with a counterfeit cheap domain name company, so a good second step is to see if you can find them. Thirdly, check message boards dedicated to webmasters to see if the company has a good or bad reputation.
If no one has ever dealt with the company you may want to get alternative suggestions for a reputable company. This is the sole disadvantage to getting a domain with a reputable and cheap domain name company. Cheap domain names work in the same way as regularly priced domain, so if a person knows of a reputable cheap domain name company then they should take advantage of it.
