Will a Cheap Laptop Suit Your Needs?

Buying a new laptop is a big decision, but deciding on the right one is even more difficult. Of course your first thought is probably to buy a cheap laptop and save some money, but the million dollar question is, "Will a cheap laptop suit your needs?". The only way you can truly answer that question is to determine what your needs are, or what will be the primary reason for using the laptop. If you are feeling a little confused right now that's okay, I have assembled some groups of the most comon type of users below along with the best options for buying a laptop that wil be catered to you.

General home users:

This is without a doubt the most common type, or group, of laptop users, and fortunately for you it is also the group of laptop users most suited to the purchase of the low-end or cheap laptops. Because the daily needs of a home user are typically very little, you will find that just about any laptop will work well for a person in this group. Most often we see people in this group using their laptops for basic Internet surfing, sending and receiving email and maybe even the occasional computer game, like chess or pinball.

Light home and office users:

Well, this group is actually not very different from the group above, but I felt that we should classify them seperately. The most common difference here will be that users in this group tend to rely on their laptops basic work functions. Since we have not yet found a cheap laptop, lets say under $600, that comes equipped with an office program or office suite, for example Microsoft Office, we will need to find another way around this. Great news! That's not going to be a problem, in fact you can download a great office suite for free, and to tell you the truth, I prefer it to some of the premium office suites. If you feel that you use the computer little enough, that you would qualify as a light user and could get by with one of the cheap laptops I provided in the list above, then I would strongly suggest that you download the free office suite to handle your daily work load.

Medium to heavy users:

People in this group tend to use their laptops pretty heavily, they probably even run some programs that have a way with eating up your system's resources. You may find yourself operating a business from home or maybe your work requires you to run some of the heavier applications. The easiest way to determine if you are in this group is to consider how much time you spend on your laptop each day. Should you find that on average you spend, say the majority of the day working away on your laptop performing tasks, it would be safe to assume that you are in this group of users. Now don't start to panic, this doesn't mean that you can't still get a good cheap laptop, but you will likely have to step into the next price range to get something that works well for you. For someone in this group I would recommend that you shop in the sub $1000 price range. These laptops are likely to have faster processing speeds, better functionality and an overall better system that is less likely to get bogged down by heavy use. Don't forget that you can also check into some of the refurbished laptop models, to save you a little money.

Extreme or power users:

I must admit that I am in this group, I am a laptop addict. The problem is that this is of course the most expensive group of laptop users, and I can say from experience that we often have very specific needs and require the use of large programs to keep us going. You may be into web design, graphics, pc gaming or a whole slew of other things. Well the bad news is that in this group you are not going to have much luck with cheap laptops, unless you buy cheap and upgrade them yourself, which is actually the best way to go in my opinion. If you upgrade the laptop yourself, you will be able to build it to work best for your needs, which is really nice. You might also consider looking for a used or factory refurbished laptop, so that you don't have to shell out a couple thousand dollars for a new one.

Conclusion:

Hopefully, after reading this article, you were able to determine which type of laptop will suit you better than the rest. After all, making an informed decision is very important, if you are to buy the right product. If you were lucky enough to fall into the cheaper of the groups congratulations, I will be thinking of you the next time I have to shell out way to much for my laptop.
