Cheap Plastic Surgery
78Plastic surgery is becoming ever more commonplace these days, fueled by the media merry-go-round and the almost constant barrage of news stories of this or that movie star being the latest to go under the knife. All this commercialization and hype naturally filters down to the average person who sees how good the already beautiful people look when they reveal their latest face job. They want what the stars get and in this day and age, they'll find the money to pay for it.
But cosmetic surgery does not come cheap, especially if you want to see the same surgeon as your favorite movie star just saw. But there are cheaper alternatives and plenty of cosmetic surgery clinics that are popping up all over the place that can offer ordinary people the extraordinary opportunity to undergo the cosmetic surgery procedure of their choice at a price they can afford. Cheap plastic surgery is here and it is being taken up by plenty of folks who want to change this or that to give their vanity a boost, or to people with a real need to change something about them that they see as unsightly or ugly.
Everyone wants to be beautiful, just like the beautiful people they are mesmerized by on the TV, which is great news for the surgeons that offer to make their dreams come true. But what is the total cost of undertaking cheap plastic surgery? I'm not just talking about the money side of things, but on the risk of things going wrong. Let's take a look at how much bang you can get for your buck with cheap plastic surgery procedures.
Cheap Cosmetic Surgery Precautions
One of the first things you should do when considering cheap plastic surgery is to thoroughly research both the clinic and the surgeon you have decided upon. This is vitally important as you need to know what their success rate is, see living examples of their work and most importantly know about their failures.
It's not a forgone conclusion that any cosmetic surgery is going to be 100% successful no matter how much you pay for it. But the lower down the price scale you get, the greater the chances of problems cropping up either from botched surgical procedures or infection. Face it, it happens!
So if a clinic or a particular plastic surgeon has a catalog of failures on record, you need to know about them before you commit yourself to anything.
Its a fact that any licensed physician is able to call him/herself a cosmetic surgeon. It is therefore of paramount importance to find a legitimately trained and certified plastic surgeon. It's a good idea to choose a doctor who is a current member of the ASPS (American Society of Plastic Surgeons®). This is the first important step in bringing you some guarantees of quality care and certifiable outcomes. For those considering plastic surgery, there really is no better substitute for a fully fledged ASPS member plastic surgeon.
Here's why an ASPS surgeon is a good choice:
- The have at least 6 years surgical training and experience, including a minimum 3 years of plastic surgery
- They are board-certified by The American Board of Plastic Surgery or The Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada
- They are trained and experienced in every plastic surgery procedure. That includes plastic surgery breast augmentation and reduction, body reconstruction surgery and facial surgery and reconstruction
- Prior to attaining the great honor of membership, they are peer-reviewed for such aspects as safety as well as ethical standards
- They operate only in accredited facilities
- They adhere to a strict code of conduct and ethics
- They fulfill the requirement of continuing medical education, which includes standards and all new innovations in patient safety
Now here's the trade-off. Chances are you will have to pay more for the services of an ASCS member plastic surgeon, but by shopping around in different towns you can often find lower prices. While this may still be more expensive than some of the really cheap cosmetic surgery procedures you may get quotes, the peace of mind and professional security is worth every additional dollar you may pay extra. Sometimes you just can't place a price on your good looks and if things go wrong and you used a surgeon who was not accredited, you may have little chance of recompense.
It's something to think long and hard about.
The Dangers of Cheap Plastic Surgery Overseas
The idea of going overseas to have cheap plastic surgery may seem very alluring and even exotic, but there are dangers associated with doing that which many people do not consider when they're only seeing the savings they can make by doing it this way.
There are two major problems associated with overseas cosmetic surgery.
- You have no way of checking whether the clinic or the surgeon is certified or that it is even legitimate. This can result in poor surgery along with poor infection control.
- An infection could occur some time after your surgery, wherever it may have been done. But if your surgery was done overseas, you'll find there is little or no follow-up.
Once you return home, its not a simple matter to hop back on a plane again and return to the overseas clinic to try to have any problems they caused fixed. You certainly don't have access to legal recompense as lawyers will not be able to bring a foreign clinic to court if they're not in the US as our laws will not apply to them.
