Choosing chihuahua names is one of the many exciting aspects of owning a pet. Thus, there is no need to rush the process. Take the time to carefully think over what name you think would be best suited to your little pooch. If there are other members in your household, find out their suggestions and share yours.

However, before you begin to seriously consider any names, there are a few aspects you need to think about, such as:

Syllables - Most dog owners choose a name that has one or two syllables. The reason is because the name is fast to say and is easy for a dog to learn and recognize as his identification. A two syllable name that ends in an "ee" sound is very popular as it generally sounds happy and friendly when spoken or calling a canine. That being said, you can choose a name with more syllables, just make sure it is easy to say.

Avoid negative association - "No", will likely be a common word you will use to reprimand your chi. Therefore, you don't want to choose chihuhaua names that rhyme with it, for instance: Flow, Joe, Doe, Crow, etc. This same principle applies to any other words you may use to discipline your pet. The last thing you want is for your pup to think you are mad at him when you are using his name.

Choose a name you like - Your chihuahua is going to have this name for his whole life, so make it a good one. Pick a name you'll like and stick to it, so you don't put your dog through the confusion of changing his title if you decide you don't like the initial one you chose.

Think small - Since your dog is little, you may be interested in choosing a name that will compliment his size. The following are some "small" and popular chihuahua names you can mull over:

  • Baby
  • Chico (small)
  • Chi-Chi
  • Mini
  • Munchkin
  • Peanut
  • Peaches
  • Piddles
  • Pixie
  • Punk
  • Rascal
  • Rugrat
  • Spunky
  • Squeaky
  • Squeaker
  • Taz
  • Tinkerbell
  • Twig

Finally, it's a good idea to go through all of your chihuahua names and decide on one before you bring your dog home. This way you'll be able to use his name and familiarize him with it early, which will prove beneficial for training and bonding with your pal.
