Interesting place to visit in Chicago-Chinatown
66
If you are looking for something to do during the weekend in Chicago, Chinatown is an interesting place to visit. I actually grew up in Chinatown in the 70's. It didn’t have much then. Now it has expanded so much. It is not quite the same. If you take Interstate 55 depending on which way you come from, you get off at Cermak Rd exit. It is right there. If you want to take the train, get off at Union Station, taking a taxi to Chinatown costs about $12. It is about 10 minute ride. You can always take the bus or the Al. There is also a water taxi that you can take from the Union Station which would bring you to Chinatown. There would be a lot of walking and shopping. Be sure to bring a backpack with a bottle of water and wear a pair of comfortable shoes.
Chinatown is consistent of a few blocks including Archer Avenue which is parallel to Cermak Rd. There is Wentworth which is perpendicular to Cermak Rd. Chinatown Square is a Plaza which is located on Archer Avenue. It has all kinds of stores, restaurants, a bakery, grocery stores, book stores, etc.
Food is more than reasonable. There are different kind of cuisine such as Vietnamese, Chinese, Japanese, etc. If you are looking for American food, I would not recommend you to go there at all. Parking can be kind of difficult but if you don’t mind paying a garage, it is not bad. They have parking boxes everywhere and be sure to pay. You do not want to get a ticket and spoil the fun.
I have a few pictures to share and hope that you find this helpful. Please share your experience with me.

Thanks. I bet we were neighbors.
Nice pics, I am in Illinois. I have not been to those places in your pics. Right now, i am hungry for a dimsum.
Thanks for the compliment. You need to go to Chinatown. It is an awesome place to go. Food is more than resonable! I think in fact, it is a lot cheaper than American food. Hope you will visit. Let me know how it goes. Remember where to go for the best Dim Sum:)
Going to school at Illinois Tech, Seven Treasures was a great late-night spot for wonton noodle soup after cramming for exams!
Seven Treasures is not good any more. It is a very dirty place! Thanks for your opinion.
My second home in Sydney is Chinatown. Fabulous place to just wander around, and the food is cheap and fantastic. Not that that's had any effect on me. It's just that having discovered Chinatown I've spent the last 30 years reading everything from Journey to the West to Xinhua...
I bet the Chinatown in Sydney is much bigger thn the one in Chicago. Thanks for reading my hub.
Great photos! That dress is gorgeous.
I grew up straight across the lake in St. Joseph, Michigan so I have spent a lot of time in Chicago. I've been to Chinatown but years ago. I enjoyed your article. Thank you!
Thanks, James. Chicago is a great place to live in. There is a lot to do there. I went to high school there but now I live in Normal. It is about 2.5 hours drive to Chinatown. I go there to visit my mom and have Dim Sum:)

I, too, grew up in Chicago in the '70's but on the Southside. I have been to Chinatown several times. I went there to dine and watch the Chinese New Year with the Dragon. It is indeed a nice place to visit both for Chicagoans and tourists alike.
