Your wedding tiara is a once in a lift time purchase and because of this it is often difficult to choose the right one the first time.  There are a number of things that you should take into account to ensure that you're not disappointed with your choice.  This is especially true when you're buying your wedding tiara online as you may not get the chance to try on your wedding tiara with your wedding dress until close to the day so you're opportunity to return your tiara will be lost if you're unhappy with the combination.

Choosing a tiara by material

Tiaras are mainly made from 3 types of stones and sometimes these are combined to give the wedding tiara more contrast. Many machine manufactured tiaras are created from diamante stones with a rigid design, some brides see these as traditional tiaras. Other tiaras are created from crystals or pearls and often these are handmade by professionals. When choosing your tiara you need to take into account any other jewellery you've previously bought and are planning on wearing on your wedding day. For example if you're wearing your grandmothers pearls then you should choose a tiara with pearls in the design to help tie the old and new together. Your wedding dress may also be decorated with pearls, crystals or diamantes, again it would be wise to choose a tiara design that matches the detail on your wedding dress as it will help create a sense of fluidity throughout your bridal outfit.

Choosing a tiara by height

The height of the wedding tiara should be you next decision after choosing the correct stone (diamante, pearl, crystal).  This decision should be made in relation to your face shape.  There are 3 common face shapes (plus loads more but I'm only be concerned with the main three), these are round, oval and long.

A round face is almost the same width as it is long and the aim is to balance up the face by adding height with either the hair style or a tall tiara.  So those with round face shapes can easily carry off a tiara which is 5cm (2 inches) tall or higher.  Stay away from tiaras which are shorter than 4 cm and refrain from wearing flat headbands.

A oval face shape is just as it sounds,  oval.  If you have a oval face shape you can wear any size of tiara you wish, let your personal preference by your guide.

A long face shape is much longer than it is width and again the aim is to balance up the face, for this reason I would strongly suggest the you stick with short to medium tiaras, so tiaras up to 5cm tall would be perfect for this face shape.

Before buying a Wedding Tiara

There are a number of things you should be aware of being buying a tiara online.  Firstly if your tiara is handmade you may not be entitled to a return a tiara if you don't like it, legally if an item is personalised or custom made to your requirements the seller doesn't have to accept a return due to the distance selling regulations so thoroughly check whether returns are allowed and if it's not clear contact the seller and keep that email response as proof if you decide to buy.  Some companies allow returns on customised goods even if they are legally bound to do so such as Wedding And Gems in the UK.

If you are concerned whether the tiara band will be too large or small to fit comfortably on your head, opt for a tiara will a flexible band that can be stretched if too small or pinned into place if a little too large.  This will help you feel more comfortable and confident on your wedding day.
