Keep a Sanitary Keg by Cleaning Beer Lines

If you own a kegerator then you should already know how important sanitation is. When the lines of a kegerator are used yeast and beer stones may build up and leave an insanitary surface. This becomes an ideal breeding ground for both mold and bacteria.

Cleaning beer lines is a necessary task for anyone who owns a kegerator. This will make sure that both you and your friends are always drinking beer that is pure and safe. The problem is that most people do not know how exactly to do this and do this effectively.

It is important to know that with any kegerator there is going to be a level of maintenance required. Fortunately, cleaning your beer lines is a very quick process and is great to ensure that your lines are sanitary and functioning properly.

There are quite a few cleaning kits available to you and all will have a specific cleaning schedule for you to follow.

This process is not difficult or complicated once you know what you are doing. The bonus is that with the right cleaning kit, you will be provided with everything that you need.

Make sure that you are soaking your lines with the cleaning solution as recommended by the kit. After this, you need to flush each line with water so that no cleaning solution gets left in the line.

The next step in normally overlooked but extremely important. You need to make sure that you are soaking your other kegerator components such as the faucet and tap in the cleaning solution, then scrub them with a brush.

Also take time to make sure that the coupling washer, friction washer, and the shaft seat are working properly as well. You should also use a lubricant, food grade lubricant if possible, to coat the probe o-rings and the keg coupler. This will ensure that the kegerator is lubricated enough to continue pumping easily and that the seals are keeping your beer as fresh as possible.

If you buy a quality cleaning kit and make sure to follow the directions completely, then you will never need to know the side effects of a dirty kegerator. But if you fail to properly clean your beer lines, you will most definitely notice the effects. It is not difficult to avoid embarrassing situations caused by dirty beer.
