This command interpreter operates on Windows CE, Windows NT or OS/2 operating systems. The cmd.exe is an analog of ‘command.com’, which is in the system for Windows 9x or in the Unix shells systems. One may find this file in the C:/Windows/System32 folder and the standard file size in Windows XP ranges between 781312 bytes and 389120 bytes.

Microsoft, which developed the Windows programs, is responsible for the creation of this file. It is safe for use because it has a seven percent rating for damage. However, computer owners and users complain that they are losing files, folders and other saved data. This entirely depends on the location of this program. If found in subfolders of the C:/Windows/Systems32 file it may have a seventy-three percent chance of destroying data.

When is Cmd.exe Dangerous?

It becomes dangerous in this case and a user can best respond to this situation by hiring a computer expert to shut it down. Users should avoid trying to shut cmd.exe down themselves because they may end up deleting important data as well.

If users have a problem detecting it, they may check the bytes to establish if it is in the subfolder or not. If the bytes range between 23040 and 36864, it means that the program could probably be destroying the data. Ninety percent of all the occurrences have files ranging between these bytes though some may slightly overlap the higher limit. Cmd.exe does not have file information neither does it have a visible window. Many people may confuse this to be a core file for the Windows program though it only conceals itself in sub files where it can slowly eat up the saved data.

Windows Command Prompt

A person may find this program in the subfolder for the C:/windows file, where it poses as a dangerous function and the only way to protect the saved data is by shutting it down completely. The file maker is anonymous and this makes it more difficult to create a detection program or a software protection unit.

The cmd.exe program has the ability to make input records and monitor applications. It also conceals itself thus making it more difficult to detect the program. If the file found has the capacity of 180736 bytes, it means that it is dangerous and one should contact a professional computer technician to shut it down. If the size of the file is 180736 bytes, the chances of losing documents are sixty-four percent.
