Reiki—Some simple facts

In my previous hubs I explained the need and benefits of healing with the help of energy present in our body. We know that the process of healing by channelizing the cosmic energy into the body of a person, who needs healing, is termed as Reiki. There are, however, certain misconceptions about Reiki which I’ll try to clarify in this hub.

1. Reiki can be given from a distance which means that the practitioner does not have to be physically present with the patient; reason being that it’s not the practitioner but the energy itself which is the healer and as such energy can be channelized even from a distance.

2. A practitioner is only a conduit for the energy taken from the cosmos and as such he cannot be said to have produced his own energy for healing purpose.

3. Reiki can never hurt anyone as it is a form of spiritual energy which is only meant to do good. It can, however, not remove birth defects. It works best for bringing harmony within the body, as far as any imbalance in the regular organic functions is concerned. It removes physical and mental blockages and cleanses the body of accumulated toxins.

4. Reiki passes through clothes, wood, metal or any other substance and as such, it is not necessary to undress for receiving Reiki from the practitioner.

5. As stated in my earlier hubs, it’s not the practitioner but the energy itself which decides the time frame of healing and extent to which a person can be healed. Two people suffering from the same kind of disease may not necessarily be healed within the same span of time; the healing time in both the cases can be visibly different.

6. One does not need a college degree for giving Reiki. It can at best require a person to receive attunement or initiation from the master. Even illiterate person can learn and give Reiki to others. Also age is no bar here; a practitioner can be of any age from 10 to 70 years.

7. It is said that if a practitioner gives Reiki without compassion then it is imperative for the patient to pay for the treatment as if he does not do so, he becomes indebted to the healer and will have to pay back in some way or the other. This is a big myth.

8. Even if a practitioner does not practice giving Reiki for some years the energy never vanishes; it’s always present in the body and can be used whenever required. It is not a knowledge which can be learnt and forgotten if not practiced every day.

Color Therapy--Healing with Colors

As mentioned in my Chakra series, every Chakra is related to a specific color. In fact all Chakras, put together, have all colors of the rainbow, which again goes to show that we are an integral part of the cosmos and should never try to alienate ourselves from Nature as if we do so, we subject our body, mind and soul to untold agony and endless pain. I recommend here to read the hub for opening Chakrasbefore proceeding further. Once you know the colors associated with the Chakras, you instantly know which color you have to use for healing the affected Chakra. While using color therapy, place your hand on the person’s body part (which needs healing) and visualize the related color seeping into the body of the patient. In some cases the practitioners recommend to their clients to use the specified colors in the clothes they wear on daily basis so as to magnify the results of therapy. At this juncture, let me give some detail regarding the characteristics of each color used in color therapy; depending on the disease / ailment, it will help you to decide the color which you have to send to your patient.

1. Red Color

Red color stands for vitality, raw energy, strength, passion, zest, courage health, vigor, sexual vitality and most importantly, power. It should be specifically used in case of a person suffering from depression, inertia, melancholy, lack of interest, lack of motivation and unexplained fears. This color is strengthening Root Chakra which connects to adrenal glands (kidney points). It makes the person fully grounded and gives him confidence and high self-esteem.

2. Orange Color

Orange Color stands for warmth, tolerance, sociability, optimism, expansiveness, emotional balance, confidence, self-motivation, enthusiasm and flamboyance. It’s quite clear that this color is needed by a person who feels somewhat deficient in any of the above stated areas.

3. Yellow Color

Yellow strengthens communication and sharpens the intellect. It is conducive for organization, evaluation, analysis, academic excellence, administrative capabilities, sincerity, attention to detail and harmony with people around. It is good for concentration and clarity of thought and also enhances power of expression.

4. Green Color

Green Color is associated with growth, peace, hope, balance, harmony and healing. Green is the color of abundance and replenishment.

5. Blue Color

Blue heightens creativity, inspiration, spiritual understanding, faith and devotion. It is associated with contentment, patience, tolerance and gentleness. You can have this color anywhere you want peace and tranquility e.g. in a meditation room.

6. Purple Color

Purple is associated with psychic awareness and intuition. Its effects, no doubt, are soothing and calming but it is considered to be a very power and strong color. People normally dilute this color with a dash of white while painting the walls of the meditation room or the room where healing is supposed to be done.

7. White Color

White combines all the colors of the spectrum and signifies spiritual realization. It stands for divine humility, purification and creative imagination. It enhances meditative power, spiritual attunement and divine love.

8. Black Color

Black, is in some ways opposite to White in terms of characteristics. Black color is restricting while White is expanding. Black focuses on our inner world while White signifies life and rejuvenation. This color is never used for healing. Never project black color on anyone.

Hi Anjali,

WoW! Another amazing Hub! I find it astonishing that Reiki can be administered from a distance. I also love the idea of integrating Chakras in the healing process which have all colors of the rainbow and demonstrates that we are an integral part of the cosmos. BIG thumbs up!

Bless You,

Jim

Great Hub... I would just like to correct the following; " 2. A practitioner is only a conduit for the energy taken from the cosmos and as such he cannot be said to have produced his own energy for healing purpose"

If paractitioner does not meditate A LOT, and collect spiritual energy by himself/or herself and tries to heal other people, he/she will become very exchausted, even ill, because collecting "cosmic energy" is actually not nessesserly happening during the process of healing, on the contrary, ill person is able to completely soak up personal energy of the healer.

So many healers become seriously ill while healing the others, because they believed they use only cosmic energy for healing and that they are just channeling the cosmic energy...and that they are not personally involved in healing, what is very far from the whole truth.

Cosmic energy used in healing comes from regular meditation (individual and group ones), various other spiritual activities (prayers, mantras, singing) etc.

There is only one difference between bioenergy and Reiki - the first steps: Reiki initiation gives to the practitioner one big reservoir of energy - which comes inside his/her aura - after she/he spends it (what happens sooner or later), practioner must collect it again - by intensive meditation practise, on the same way as people who heal with bioenergy do.

If he/she does not do it, and does not regularly create an extra amount of "personal" spiritual energy, will not be able to heal the others directly without seriously harming oneself.

Healing is not so easy - it takes a lot of time and effort. I also believed on the beginning that Reiki was just chanelling the cosmic energy, but after many research - I had found out that things were not so simple as they were presented to me.

Big thumbs up for the rest of the article.

Hi Anjali, I studied healing myself a while back, and find this subject endlessly fascinating. Thanks for laying things out so clearly. Good information.

my-success-guru: Yes Reiki can be administered from a distance. It sure is intriguing but true. Chakras play the most important part as all the energy is channelized through chakras, as I explained. Thx very much for your kind comments.

Tatjana: There seems to be a slight misunderstanding here. When I said the practitioner is only a conduit, I meant that the actual source of energy (for healing) is cosmic energy which includes the energy inside the practitioner himself. We do it as a mark of respect to cosmos and the Higher form of energy. There can be no doubt about the depletion of practitioners personal energy as he is nonetheless doing work (spiritual though). You did mention about collecting energy by way of meditation which explains that there is a process of collection not production involved here. Getting tired and exhausted during healing is a direct consequence of channelizing the collected energy into someone elses body. Thx for your kind comments and sharing your experiences here. I am honored.

Violet Sun & Amanda Severn: Thx both of you for liking the information I tried  putting together here. I feel simply elated to see you commenting on my hubs. Thx again.

Wow. I never knew colours could heal. However, I notice when I wear white, I feel... its hard to explain but the colour lifts my spirits. Light blue is another colour that affects my mood in a good way and I don't wear black tops cos they make me feel dull in spirit but I'm okay with black trousers or skirts. Weird. So, colours have a certain power then. Thanks.

Lady_E: Colors, most certainly have a healing effect on us. You must have seen people wearing stone studded rings. Those stones (having different colors e.g yellow saphire, blue saphire, topaz, pearl etc) emit color vibrations which affect us in a positive manner. Colors are prescribed according to the Chakra which needs to be activated (as mentioned ---in healing) or depending on the planet which we want to strengthen (astrologically) as colors are associated with planets as well. I think I went a little beyond the topic discussed here. Thx very much for reading this hub and sharing your experiences.

Thanks, Anjali,

can I add just little food for your thoughts? As a part of cosmic, Divine being, we actually produce the healing energy when our brains attune to the certain frequencies....as well as we collect it from other reservoirs of energy. F.e. I adore to meditate on the rocks which have rock crystals inside them, so I collect energy from the crystals and my brain transfoms that energy  into the healing energy. But, when there is no rocks, I do produce the healing energy with my brain wawes, as well as any other living being can do. Even plants can be healers.

We can be miracoulus creatures....as a part of Creator, we are creators as well.

A lots of love and support to your great writting.

Tatjana: That's a wonderful way to perceive the concept of 'production', 'generation', collection' and 'channelizing' energy. Thx for making this hub even more interesting and informative. (Hugs)

i have been practicing self-healing ever since i can remember myself. as a kid i used to "fix" -thats how we called it- my older sister when she would hurt herself. when my father found out he asked me to stop and never talk to anyone about it. i continued to self-heal -you cant really stop that anyway- but i always wanted to find someone that knows about it. for the rest of the things that i did -or thought i did- i really started to doubt when my boyfriend -with whom i was very much in tune- was killed and i never got a warning sign or feeling. i still have the experiences but i try to mistrust them.recently while self-healing i used, for the very first time, a crystal. for me, i felt i needed it because of the nature of the illness i was fighting. i felt that this way i was "by-passing" my ill body so that the energy would continue to be "pure". i dont know... thats the first time i m loooking into these things. is what i m saying making any sense?

maroutsela: Some people are born with this gift and don't have to do much to improvise on their skills. You are one of them. You might have done healing as a kid without even knowing what you were into. It's a humble work and you are doing a service to the people around you which makes you a very special person. :) Speaking about your loss, I'm really sorry to hear about your friend. Well, you are a healer and it does not mean that you have psychic powers too. Knowing something beforehand is knows as 'precognition' or 'premonition' (which I'm taking up in my coming hubs) and that's a different kind of gift which has nothing to do with healing. So, don't lose trust in the powers you have. Also, I don't know what kind of illness you are suffering from but it is quite possible that you did not cleanse your aura after healing people. When you heal someone, you pick up the negative energies, sometimes, which become more and more intensified if you don't cleanse yourself everytime you heal someone. This might be the reason for your illness. I can't be sure, however. Please feel free to come back. Thx very much for sharing your experiences in this hub.
