WALKING CANE SELF DEFENSE, part 1

People are interested in the Martial arts for many reasons including development of mind, body, and spirit and of course enhancing your self-defense skills. As you get older and regardless of your training in the arts, you should develop a pragmatic view of enhancing your defensive skills. Utilizing a self-defense Cane is a fantastic way toenhance your defensive skills. A properly designed Cane if used correctly, can amplify your skills. The walking Cane is now an accepted accessory in most civilized cultures and is accepted on Airplanes.TIP: If carried on a airplane, please refer to it as your walking Cane, not fighting Cane, Combat Cane, Black Belt Cane etc.

Many cultures developed a powerful self-defense system utilizing the Cane or stick. From the Korean style of Haipkido Cane fighting, Philippine stick fighting to Irish Whiskey Stick Dancing. I have studied various martial arts and have selected 12 simple basicmovements. You can combine these movements in multiple waysto create many powerful self-defense techniques. You can combine these movements with basic distancing and positioning footwork. What ever close infighting tools you already know, Knee's, low kicks, Elbows, Traps etc can be incorporated also.

Most attacks on the street will be up close, vicious and happen quickly. You will not have time to adopt defensive stances. You willneed to block and avoid, basically take ground and position your self to negate your opponents attack. For Example, your attacker will find it difficult to strike you if you are standing on his foot and shoving your Cane with both hands into his neck. Found your article this morning. I am very interested in walking cane being used for self defense as well as a very beloved walking aid. I have seen the cane masters technic and found it a bit aggressive. My interests are help the elderly (I am one) and handicapped (that is me also) to have a means of fending off an agression. corkif44@yahoo.com

Greetings

Thanks for your comments. Although I have been involved in the martial arts for years, I appreciate that not everyone has that back ground. As a 65 years guy, I like simple concepts that anyone can do. I offer DVD's and seminars geared toward older people. I also offer Cane packages for groups. Check out my web site or drop me a line at ancientdragon@cdavisgroup.com

Thanks again

Charles
