From My Prayer Closet
75Prayer Cottage
I thought that it is about time I began sharing my prayer closet experiences with others with the pure intention of encouraging, edifying people and lifting up the name of Jesus. The Lord Jesus Christ is alive and at work today amongst His people just as He was 2000 years ago.
I have always wanted to be a person of prayer. Over the years God has trained, equipped and led me little step by step into the thrilling life of prayer, which is a life of walking and talking with Him like the disciples talked with Him. Well, to tell you the truth, it has been a long arduous journey which I sometimes shunned for it did not make much sense and was sometimes very boring.
Then in 2006 I learnt that there was such a thing as a Spirit of Prayer which Amy Semple Mcpherson was said to have. I read about it in Lydia Prince's Book "Appointment in Jerusalem". It was not the first time I was reading "Appointment in Jerusalem", but as always in special seasons and times, God will open us to things that we have a need to learn and I believe He was opening me up this time to have a deeper look at prayer. When I read about Lydia Christensen's desire to have a spirit of prayer and read that she experienced it, I believed I could have it too. Well, at the time, the Holy Spirit led me into a 14 day water fast.
I had not fasted in a very long time and it was really rigorous, I suffered with headaches, hiccups, and a whole lot of things that truly challenged my flesh, but I was willing to go ahead because the reasons for my fasting were far more important to me than the physical suffering. I was fasting to have a closer walk with God. I was seeking him fervently and I was asking for a number of things pertaining to my spiritual growth and a renewed walk with Him. One of my pastor friends must have been very concerned about me, he kept calling and checking on me. To tell you the truth, I felt like he was trying to get me off the fast as quickly as possible starting from day 4 or so. Well, I persisted, I did not do all the 14 days but I went up to day 9 and broke the fast.
I can testify to this, that fast proved to be epic. It was one of the best things that had ever happened to me in many years. It was a time of renewal, refreshing and refocusing. And the best thing that happened was that, I got the spirit of prayer that I had so earnestly asked for from God. If you would like to know what this spirit of prayer is, you would have to ask for it from God as well. It is true. When God touches you with His spirit of prayer, He gives a natural desire to stay in the presence of God, to enjoy prayer immensely and to do it with all the pleasure and look forward to it. When you have not prayed, you feel that something is terribly amiss because you miss talking to the Lord so much.
I had been tottering on the brink of perpetual prayer, I had been learning to remain in disciplined communication with the Lord. He made sure He immersed me into that experience and it takes no effort nowadays, the Lord is my friend and we flow naturally with one another. I do not get bored about praying, it is so much a part of me, it is effortless and natural.
Because of this, God has done many things in and through my prayer life. It is time to share weekly with you my daily prayer experiences. Check my notes every Tuesday and I will have something new and special to share with you about prayer. It may be a teaching on prayer but it will be a lot about what God does in answer to our prayers. Be ready to be challenged because you sure will be.

A NINE DAY FAST! I am impressed. I love food so much. I have never fasted. :(
You didn't eat at all? Just water?
James A Watkins; Oh, why am I laughing? Nothing impressive my brother, it took a lot of God to do that. Yes, I just drank water and nothing else. Thanks for reading my hub. Try going on a half or one day fast to spend time in the presence of God. I am sure you will be blessed! It has to be that pressing for you to do it, I guess.
