Creating album artwork is a fun and exciting way to spice up your music. When you use a MP3 player now, you can take advantage of displaying album artwork. Devices like the Microsoft Zune and Apple iPod display them in such a way that having the best possible pictures to use for the artwork are key. If you cannot find the right artwork, there are steps to take to make album artwork yourself.

First, find the right picture you want to use. You can either utilize the actual album artwork, found somewhere like Google Image Search, or you can use a picture of your choice. The possibilities are endless. Once you find the right picture, use an image editor to tweak the imaging the way you want it to look. Make sure you crop the picture to either 400 x 400 or 500 x 500, both of which are excellent sizes for display on the majority of MP3 devices.

Next, once you are finished editing the picture, you want to save it in a high-quality image file. Do not save the image as a GIF, this is a low grade quality image file and it will show when displayed on the unit. Save the pictures either as PNG or JPG, PNG being the higher of the two quality image files there. Most devices can display GIF, JPG, PNG or BMP. However, BMP can be saved in a very high size file and this may not be worth the trouble depending on the size of the MP3 player.

Finally, once you have the images saved to your liking, you can transfer them to your MP3 unit. Depending on the type of device, each imports album artwork in a different way. Just import the artwork and see how it looks when playing your tunes. If you do not like how it looks, you can always go back and create a new type of album artwork to try out.
