It is terrible to think that we need these days to suspect everyone and do so much checking. Nevertheless, we are only returning to days gone by when before industrialisation people did not move around very much and everyone would know everyone else. In those days strangers were considered outsiders for a long while - presumably until the community felt they knew enough about them for them to trust them fully. Now, that could take many years. At least a record check these days can be completed in a few weeks - not years!.
