Custom Painted Crankbaits
All the rage of the past few years has been the custom painted crankbait craze. Born out of tournament anglers looking for any edge they could get and the advances over the years of the airbrush painting equipment, techniques and raw materials custom crankbaits are a great way to give the fish a different lookt than they have seen before. Whether you are looking to match the preyfish on your favorite lake or just trying to make the lure stand out just enough from that standard paint job that the big lure manufacturers employ a custom painted lure is just the ticket to set it aside from an out of the box crankbait.

Sunfish Custom Painted Crankbaits
For instance a common bait fish in lakes throughout the USA is the common sunfish. If you look at the out of the box standard colors from lure manufacturers you will find some with the broad coloring of a sunfish, but definitely not in the same class as a custom painted lure. The airbrushed lure just jumps out at you with it great patterns and coloring. Look to the right to see a great example of what a sunfish crankbait can look like.
Red Crawdad Custom Painted Crankbaits
Or perhaps the classic crawfish is the bait that the predator fish are looking for in your local body of water. The standard colors are great and all that, but they don't quite do justice to how a true to life crayfish looks. Look to the right for a great example of red crawdad paint job.
Hard Topcoat
On top of the great paint jobs that are available with a custom painted bait, a better than your standard crankbait topcoat is applied to ensure years of top flight use for your bait. We have all had baits that only last a couple of lures before they are absolutely shot on their topcoat covering. Given the painstaking process that these lures go through to get that great paint job, a top end clear coat is applied. This top coat is far superior to what you will find on standard crankbaits from major manufacturers. They can't afford to put that high quality coating on all their baits in their cost cutting moves to meet certain price points.
Shad Custom Painted Crankbaits
We all know that shad are one of the greatest bait fishi in all of fishing. Almost all predator fish love nothing more than a shad meal whenever they get a chance. You can buy the standard colored shad lures out there and they work, but a custom paint job really takes this look to a whole other level. The scales and coloring really can't be beat.

Interesting story, C.S. I think the custom painting are just about the coolest thing to come along in the fishing game in a whille.
I think firetiger is the most effective paintjob for crankbaits, but shad and crawdad colors seem to work well, too.
I am a huge fan of the firetiger pattern in algae colored water. I have had extremely good luck with that pattern in that color water. In clear water I have not had good luck at all with the firetiger pattern. Going with the standard shad color has been the most effective for me in that situation.

I met a young man fishing one day and he showed me his custom painted baits. They looked like something off a graffiti wall! Very cool but I think the fish would have run screaming for fear of being robbed by his inner city looking lures! Great photos here, the lures look so real. Nice share.
