Daddy Day Camp - Cuba Gooding Jr in a sequel to Daddy Day Care

Daddy Day Care is one of the reasons that I pretty much loathe Eddie Murphy. As a matter of fact, I don’t even know if I’ve ever liked Eddie Murphy. I like the Shrek films, but I think that Donkey is the low point of them. So excuse if I’m not overly excited while I talk about Daddy Day Care and its upcoming sequel Daddy Day Camp.
Daddy Day Care came out in 2003 and more or less ruined my life. It was met by mostly negative reactions from critics, but to its family-friendly nature and Murphy’s (undeserved) star power, it grossed over $160 million at the U.S. box-office alone, over twice as much as the $60 million that it was made for.
The film starred Eddie Murphy in the lead role, as well as Jeff Garlin (Curb Your Enthusiasm), Steve Zahn (Sahara), and Regina King (24 Season 6).
Its sequel, Daddy Day Camp, was rumored to be in production until Cuba Gooding Jr. and Jay Leno spilled the beans about it on the Tonight Show, confirming what many fans were already speculating about.
However, Eddie Murphy will not be reprising his role as Charlie Hinton. The above-mentioned Cuba Gooding Jr. will be taking his place. Likewise, Paul Rae will be filling Jeff Garlin’s shoes as Charlie’s friend, Phil Ryerson.
The plot is as follows: after Daddy Day Care, Charlie and Phil see fit to create Daddy Day Camp. However, the plan awry when Charlie’s dad, Colonel Buck Hinton starts to take over.
The movie marks the film directorial debut of Fred Savage of Wonder Years fame. Savage has directed several television shows, including Boy Meets World (which stars his brother, Ben). Let’s hope he can take an uninteresting premise and turn it into something worth watching. Hey, at least we won’t have to put up with Eddie Murphy!
