Dance Into Unity Journal: Autism through the Lens of Unity

We're Elena and Svetlana of Dance Into Unity, Inc. We look forward to sharing with you a series of Hubs where we will explore different life experiences through the Lens of Unity.
We view the concept of unity as the ultimate connection of all.
In our first article, we would like to discuss the painful and incurable disorder called autism and how we view it through the lens of unity.
Autism has affected our family as it has many others. We wanted to find a new way to look at it, not as a clinical disorder, but as an integrated piece in the concept of Unity.
Inspired by this idea, we wrote an archetypal fairytale called "Dance Into Unity through the Heart of Tango"Ó. This story tells about the quest of Truth, Light, Dreamer, Disconnect and others to reach from the Land of Separation, where Snake rules, to the Land of Unity, where everything is possible.
The prototype for the character of "Disconnect" is Adam, our 13-year old relative, a boy afflicted with autism.
Based on this soon to be published book, in November of 2006, we presented the premiere production of "Dance Into Unity through the Heart of Tango" which took place at the Wilshire Ebell Theatre in Los Angeles. Two nights of Argentine Tango with the Broadway originals of "Forever Tango" united many people of different backgrounds, and we all witnessed how Adam, this child with autism, connected us all for a worthy cause. And this is just the beginning!
Dance Into Unity is the story of one family, every family and all of us. We can all relate to the universal characters of Light, Truth, Dreamer, Disconnect and Snake, and how they interweave and play out in our lives, our families and our world.
In this series, we will share quotes from our book and explore how they relate to various themes of separation and unity in our humanity.
We invite you to explore with us, and share your own thoughts or experiences in connection to this discussion.
