genital Herpes is a sexually transmitted disease (STD) , caused by the herpes simplex viruses type 1 or type 2. Most genital herpes is caused by the HSV type 2 virus. Most people have little or no symptoms form type 1 or 2 infection.when signs do occur, they typically appear as one or more blister like sores on or around the genital area or rectum. The blisters break , leaving very tender ulcer type sores that may take 2-4 weeks to heal the first time they occur. Typically another breakout ccan appear weeks or months after the first, but it is almost always less severe and shorter than the first outbreak. Although the infection can stay in the body indefinitely, the number of outbreaks tends to decrease over a period of years.
How do people get Genital herpes? both type 1 and 2 can be found in and released from the sores that the virus causes, but they are also released from the skin even when it does not appear that there are any sores.typically type 2 can only be transmitted during sexual contact with someone who has the type 2 infection.Type 1 can cause genital herpes as well,but is more commonly causes infections of the mouth and lips, known as "fever blisters".type 1 infection of the genitals can be caused by oral-genital or genital -genital contact with a person who has the type 1 infection. type 1 outbreaks tend to recur less regularily than type 2 outbreaks.
What are the signs and symptoms of genital herpes? most people who are infected with type 2 are not even aware of their infection.However if sings and symptoms do occur during the first outbreak ,they can be very noticeable.The first outbreak usually occurs within 2 weeks after the virus is transmitted,and the sores typically heal within 2-4 weeks. Others signs and symptoms you may experience are a second crop of sores, flu like symptoms,includingswollen glands.
How is genital herpes diagnosed? Herpes can be ediagnosed by visible inspection and sampling of the sores if you have any .Otherwise if no sores are present they can take a blood test to diagnose.
Is there a treatment for genital herpes? there is no treatment that can cure herpes,but antiviral meds can shorten and prevent outbreaks during the period of time the person takes the medication. in addition daily suppressive therapy for symptomatic herpes can reduce transmission to partners.
the surest way to prevent genital herpes is to absain from sexual contact,or to be in a long term mutually monogamous relationship with a person who has been tested and known to be unifected.
