Delicious food for Diabetes Sufferer
70Delicacies a Diabetes Sufferer Can Enjoy
Diabetics are careful about what they eat. Food intake is very important when managing blood sugar levels. But, that doesn’t mean that you can’t have any sugar or that dessert is totally out of the question. Here are ten delicacies that you can still enjoy with diabetes.
The main ingredient that diabetics were always told to stay away from was sugar. If you didn’t eat sugar, you would manage your diabetes better. That is not entirely the case, however. It is true that high blood sugar levels are dangerous but it is not only sweets that do it.
Eating the wrong type of carbohydrates is not healthy for anyone, but you can eat things in moderation. If you make room for a sweet snack or dessert, decrease the amount of carbohydrates you take in the rest of the day. You don’t have to eat dessert every day but when you do you can eat something you like.
1. Gelatin – there are several types of sugar free gelatin on the market that don’t taste sugar free. Add a dollop of whipped cream to the top of your favorite flavor for a sweet treat.
2. Cake – everyone has a birthday and that is the one day that you should be able to eat cake. Choose a recipe that limits the amount of flour to keep your blood sugar manageable. Go for the chocolate cake if you want.
3. Popsicles – there are sugar free popsicles in the flavors you loved as a child and also fudge pops if chocolate is what you are craving.
4. Cookies – instead of buying them from the store, make your own. Invest in a good diabetic cookbook for biscotti to accompany your coffee, an oatmeal cookie or a chocolate cookie if you prefer.
5. Brownies – use lower fat ingredients in your recipe and eat just one.
6. Pudding – make your own at home with skim milk. Use the sugar free variety. Enjoy a dozen flavors whenever you want.
7. Snow cones – this is always great on a hot day. Make your own shaved ice and top with a little vanilla, your favorite Crystal light drink, to add some sweetness.
8. Fruit cobbler – use fresh fruit in its own juice. With a cobbler, use only a bottom crust to limit your sugar intake.
9. Ice cream – sugar free ice cream or fat free frozen yogurt can be enjoyed. Stick to the serving size and savor it.
10. Baked apples – apples supply a lot of fiber. Bake them with a bit of cinnamon and brown sugar. Yum!
Just because you are diabetic doesn’t mean that you can’t have a sweet treat. Here are ten choices and most of them taste better if you make them yourself.
