Ugly Betty Thoughts
53Betty Betty Betty...
With some serious luck, (and some serious campaigning on 'Betty' fans' part), Betty will be returning to ABC on October 9th, 2009. Don't start celebrating yet...
That's a Friday night at 9PM... the kiss of death.
Now-there's a glimmer of hope. Some shows survive on Friday nights, I mean NUMB3RS has survived for SIX seasons at 10, and to be perfectly honest, the dialogue and overall plot of NUMB3RS is atrocious. But that's the exception to the rule, most shows, especially shows that the network is used to making money on like Betty, are set up to fail on Friday nights, and then they do, because even in this world not everyone owns a Tvo. ABC is also so successful lately, kicking every other networks butt-I'm not convinced they'd put out the money for 'Betty'.
But back to the fun, non-corporate side. I am so pumped up for this season, no matter how long it is. I thought the finale of season 3 was sheer brilliance. Bringing Henry back was a great decision, and was excellent dramatic symmetry to having Geo on in the beginning of the season. There was a big part of me that was screaming, "Ugh! Don't let down Matt and submarine Thursdays! EVEN if Henry got really cute!", the entire episode, but it showed that even perfect good girl Betty makes mistakes. AND my favorite scene was the ending-when Matt reveals that it's over, but...
"Oh no, you'll see me everyday... I'm your new boss" (paraphrased). *insert shock and awe here*...
It was so fantastic that they came up with this semi-original twist, (as in, I'm sure it's been done before, but not in recent memory). I was incredibly touched by the scene in which Daniel see's Molly in the corner, and of course screamed something along the lines of "Stupid Betty, You made me cry AGAIN!" at the television, but felt the storyline came to a nice end with Betty comforting Daniel, I really adore their friendship.
Speaking of that...I feel a "Detty" relationship in the making this season, they've been hinting for a while, but I honestly hope they don't go there. I can actually speak from experience when saying that it can take yearS to get a close friendship back on track after even the most casual of flings, (and when does Betty ever do casual?). But I don't know ABC's writing staff has pleasantly surprised me with unlikely duos in the recent passed, (Lexi+Sloane, Grey's, Sawyer+Juliet, LOST, and even Charlotte+Cooper, Private Practice).
