Global warming and its impact.

Global warming is the biggest threat towards mankind since the Black Death, claiming millions of lives in the process. Now are planet faces a dangerous crisis, which not only effects humanity, but animals and the environment too. The global population of humans in our world has dramatically increased over the past 50 years, due to a vast improvement in quality of life and access to medical care, which is expected to increase to a massive 9 billion by 2042. But us the population of humanity vastly increasing, so does the usage of energy required in are modern and digitalized lifestyle, and we are currently using a large amounts of energy such as electricity and gas, most of which is wasted or unused.

Currently our energy is mainly provided by coal, oils and natural gases, which is burnt, creating heat and transferred into energy via turbines. But this way of producing and providing energy to the nation is not really clean, nor is it environmental friendly. For example:

In order to produce electricity and gas, the source of it, in this case coal, oils and gases, have to be quarried, jumped and then shipped. This method may be productive, but the outcome leads to a damaged and ruined landscape, due to the large scale quarrying.

Secondly, whilst the energy sources are burnt, in order to produce energy produces a by-product, with includes. Carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, sulphur ect.

In addition, these are some of the chemicals which add and contribute to the greenhouse effect, effecting and damaging our environment and world. Millions of tonnes of pollution to added to our atmosphere each and every year. This can lead to a increasing global temperature raise, causing a sea level rise, and will change amount and pattern of precipitation likely including an expanse of the subtropical desert regions. Also likely include increases in the intensity of extreme weather events and patterns, causing extreme and vast weather changes, such as large periods of rain causing flooding, extreme periods of heat, causing droughts. In addition, glacier retreat could be affected, species facing extinctions and increase in the ranges of disease vectors.

This can all change if we act now! And aim to reduce your carbon foot print.

“Why should I bother?” you might be asking yourself?

Well firstly, using less energy, within your household not only reduces the amount of pollution added into our atmosphere, but saves money also. This can be done by installing roof insulation, which prevents the loss of heat within your household, keeping the warmth within. Secondly, switch electrical appliances off, instead of leaving it on standby. They is a good reason for this action, because a typically very small amount of energy is wasted, but the sum of all such devices within the household becomes significant.

Secondly, we should turn towards and rely on alternative source of energy, which have zero carbon dioxide emissions, clean and environmental friendly. Thankfully this type of energy source exists. For example solar panel should be used to sunshine rich countries, able to provide electricity even to the most remote homes in the world. Wind turbines should be used in area where wind is continuous and daily, turning the turbine and generating electricity, which can provide thousands of homes with energy. These are just many of the possible ways in order to achieve energy, which cost less, harmless to our environment, with zero carbon emissions and renewable, meaning that this source and method of enhancing energy will never run out.

In conclusion, the methods of renewable energy provide and ensure to reduces the increase in pollution add into our atmosphere, the outcome will lead to a more controlled and peaceful future. Protecting our animals and the environment from pollution, we may not be able to prevent and stop global warming harming our fragile planet, but we are most certainly able to reduce its impact and its effect not only towards humanity, but towards animals and the landscape.

Wlecome to HubPages.

All-in-all a good article. Unfortunately there is no hope. There are just too many people. The only solution is that everyone in the developed nations go back to percapita resource and energy consumption levels ot "third" world nations, and third world nations go back to stone age level consumption.

That is not going to happen without war or some "straw breaking the camel's back" event. And it is a race to see which will occur first. It's not a question of "if", but of when.

Thanks for a solid hub, Dheeraji. I disagree with "beaner's" pessimistic assessment. There is a lot to be done with available technology, and potentially a lot of money to be made doing it.

For just a taste, see:

Of course Dheeraji already gave some "stabilization wedges" in the last couple of paragraphs!

One minor typo, maybe, Dheeraji--in paragraph 3, it says "quarried, jumped and then shipped." Do you mean "quarried or pumped and then shipped," perhaps?

All in all, though, well-done--and certainly timely! Please keep writing!

Good hub - I am studying all aspects of sustainable and self-sufficient, off-the-grid living, have been for a couple of years. Not only do we have the specter of global-warming looming, but also the uncertainty of social and economic upheavals.

Our futures are anything but certain, in more ways than one...
