Diabetes Organizations and Resources

As a member of a family with big history in diabetes I have come to be a very conscious person. And believe me, diabetes is more serious than what people think.

The big problem with the diabetes is that usually it damage most of your internal organs. And if you add the use of pills every single day, you could have an idea. I said usually because I'm not a doctor. So, I can't say for sure. I'm only talking by my own personal experience seeing love ones die around me because organ failure caused by the diabetes.

My step father had diabetes and died from heart attack. Never had heart disease. The first stroke and he died. The diabetes damaged his heart creating bad blood circulation. But he used to over eat. My mom used to make his healthy diet and he used to hide from her and eat junk food. He even began to eat raw things like rice and spaghetti. I think it was more mentally than really hunger. Iike when you say to any child don't do that and they do it faster.

Then my grandma also had a heart attack because the same thing. But my grandma didn't want to eat a healthy diet. She just ate less. Both my grandma and stepfather used to use insulin every day a few time a day. It was hard to see them with this problem since I was just a kid.

Then grandpa died from pulmonary disease by complications about the diabetes. It seems to me that the diabetes weakness your organs inside your body. And a lot of people like my husband, who has diabetes too, thinks that because he drinks pills every day doesn't have to take care of him self. Well, he is wrong and I'm still trying to convince him to take care of him self.

I have been telling him since he was around 24 years old about the diabetes. His mom has it, grandma and grandpa even his aunt. I mentioned he could get it as soon he hit 30 years old and unfortunately it happened that way. Doctors, of course know better that me how and why the body changes so much after 30. Some times it seems that we don't have control over our body after hitting 30. But believe me you do.

Friends, the key to your health is EXERSICE. No matter what you eat you need to do exercise. It will keep your blood running perfectly through your body instate of getting stuck some where.

I have known of people with diabetes that with a lot of exercise and healthy choices of food have no need for the pill they use to keep the diabetes under control. But not my family. They love junk food to much to give it up. But you can. It is not bad to it the junk food what it's wrong is to just eat junk all the time.

Here is what I do. I never, never, never buy junk when I go to do the grocery shopping. What I do is, if I feel like eating a piece of candy bar, I go out that moment to the store to get just that. That is, if I really what it bad enough to don't care about getting in the car or some times to walk when don't have the car, spend the money, missing my tv show or getting the kids ready because what to go with me and the gas I'll be spending for just a candy bar. Most of the time I end not going. So, I don't it any junk.

Well, I hope this helps and inspire somebody to take a better care about them self.

Here is some information I found that could be an interest of someone.

Oh! by the way, my husband grandma passed away last august 2007. She died sitted on the passinger sit of her granddaughter car in a trip from Baltimore, MD to Philladelphia, PA. She had a blood clot on her leg created from the bad circulation on her legs. When someone with bad blood circulation on their legs spend long hours sitted, it could create blood clots and they doesn't move until the person gets up. Then the clot travel through the body until arrive to the longs cousing you to stop breathing. She died on her way back home inside the car. Nobody notice because she was sleeping in the car. When we tried to wake her up, it was to late.

Hey! all of you, friends, out there with diabetes, please take care of your self and do exercise at least 3 times a week for 30 minutes. No matter what exercise. Dancing, running, bike, jumping, walking or else.

Hey guys, I found a website called: http://www.mybettercare.com. It is from the Company AmMed Direct. they are offering 3 diabetes cookbooks for free. They are a test supplies company charged to your medicare or any other insurance account. They offer you free support and the cookbooks are free.

When my husband joined it was only one Deserts Cookbook. Now they are offering 3 different Cookbooks free. We applied online. Someone called over the phone to have my husband diabetes information and they will tell you if you qualify for the program or not, but they send you the free kit for free anyway.

I don't know how long will be, but I though someone would like the cookbook like me.:)
