When you buy a camcorder, there are a lot of different options as to record the video you are shooting. Since digital is the way to go nowadays, analog forms of media have become mostly obsolete. There are several different types of digital media to use with your camcorder; this is just a brief overview of some of them.

MiniDVDs record onto 3" discs. These offer high-quality sound and video as well being able to be played on most DVD players that allow for mini-disc playback. They come in DVD-R and DVD-RW formats; DVD-R formats allow the disc to be written to once, and when finalized, they cannot be used again. DVD-RW, on the other hand, can be edited and reused a series of time.

MiniDV is one of the most popular formats for use with digital camcorders. These are small tapes as opposed to discs. It produces higher quality reception when broadcast through a television, audio for these recordings is also superior to most other forms of media. HD camcorders use this format to record at a 720p resolution size for playback on a HDTV.

8mm camcorder media utilizes the same playback technology as MiniDV but its tapes are much larger. Since some camcorders are capable of playing both Hi8 tapes along with the 8mm ones, you can interchange analog and digital recordings for the best overall output.

Some camcorders even allow you to use flash memory to record video; this can then be uploaded to a computer for editing, burning and sharing. They can also be plugged into console systems, TVs and cable boxes that support the use of file sharing amongst flash memory.

There are many options out there when purchasing a digital camcorder, finding the right media to use with it is essential. Depending on what you want to do with the media, how you want to share it and what playback output you are utilizing, the media you select is key to finding the perfect way to display what you record with the world. When choosing your camcorder, take into consideration the media you will need to use with it, and make sure it is part of the decision. After all, when investing that type of money, you want to get the best quality playback you can.
