Directory links

I will not pretend that directory links are the best links you will ever get, but they are some of the easiest. Submitting your site to directories takes about a minute and the links usually last for years. You can target the keywords for your site in the listing and the title, creating a relevant one way backlink that will help you rank better for your intended keywords. This has to be one of the easiest things that many webmasters are completely missing. Again it may take lot’s of links from directories to help you rank but they are so easy to get that you would be smart to take 10 to 15 minutes per day to submit your site.

Most quality directories won’t list single hubpages or squidoo lenses but if you have your own blog or website you should be submitting them to a few directories every day. If you want to increase the quality of the link from the directories then you can keep a list of the directories that accept your site and do some social bookmarking on the actual page of your listing. Submit the listing page to digg and stumbleupon which only takes another minute or two and you have just created a decent quality free backlink to your site with the keywords of your choice.

You may even find quality directories that the owners put in actual time to promote and get ranked well. Some may even do article marketing to help their directories over all. Good places to find new and established directories alike include the forums at iwebtool.com and digitalpoint.com. Both places allow directory owners to promote their sites, so you should be able to find good lists of directories every single day.

Don’t rely solely on directory links for your sites but when you need some links fast and easy they just can’t be beat. Don’t forget to mix up your keywords also. I like to use a set of 10 to 20 different titles for each of my sites and try to get about 50 links for each title. The fact is that some of the directories you list your site in will never be completely indexed so the link may never do you any good at all. So get as many as you can, it’s a little like throwing mud against a wall. Some of it has to stick. Below is a short list of directories to get you started.

Hi Alan,

After a long time..... :) There are a lot of free directories and paid ones too. Perhaps it will be a better guide if you have categorized as such. Its a lot of work sifting through and submitting to directories. I don't think many of us will go for paid ones. In your opinion which are the best free ones that are worth our time spent on submitting?

Warm Regards

PS: I haven't gone through your links yet. :)Bookmarked this page for later reference

Hi Sunseven! Always a pleasure to speak with you. I really should have said more about free versus paid. I feel that you should never bother with a paid directory. A featured listing is a different story but never pay just for inclusion. Sounds like another hub altogether. Great idea thanks!

I think you can make around 4 - 5 hubs on this topic. It should goup well and can become a perfect reference guide on directories. Perhaps one on directories with reference to PR values?

Best Regards
