Off road motor sports season has come and its time to get a dirt bike. People may ask why a dirt bike? It might sound awful form the word dirt. It doesn’t mean it’s dirty. It means it’s meant for all terrain types and all weather conditions. Want to come across a bumpy track, take off a ramp, do a small maneuver in air before landing then you might want to get hold of a dirt bike. Doing stunts in air requires the rider to be airborne for longer duration or at least for the duration sufficient enough to complete the stunt. For this the bike must be of low weight and of course the rider must also weight less. However while in air the rider detaches from the dirt bike and maintains minimal contact with bike so that the rider can perform some flips or seat grab stunts. Both should be in the same level in air so that the rider can get control of the bike once again and perform landing maneuvers. Don’t go by the looks while choosing the dirt bike. Dirt bikes are custom built mostly using after market parts and it has proved to be more efficient than manufacturers’ specific model in the market. It is because of the fact that different manufacturers yield different quality and performance for a particular part. Dirt bikes must have high suspension travel and ground clearance. This will just help them in clearing bumps and uneven terrains. Apart from these other factors include engine horse power, tire grip and hand bar stability. Above all weight of the bike is the major factor affecting the performance of dirt bikes in off road race events. Dirt bikes are available from various manufacturers at different cost. However there are several varieties of off road motorcycles specialized for various event types. Bikes that are suitable for freestyle motor sports may not be fully qualified dirt rally events.
