3 Tips To Help You Discover Your True Passion In Life
67Are you sick and tired of working your fingers to the bone in a thankless job for an ungrateful boss? Have you lost your job and realise it is time for a change? Maybe you simply want to be able to wake up each morning without experiencing that sickening, down-heartening feeling when you realise you have to go to work. Whatever brought you to this article, one thing is clear; you are not happy in your career/job and you are wondering if it is possible to change it.
So why bother to find your true passion?
Why not continue to be one of the many cogs in the wheel of the company you work for? Because you deserve more, you are not meant to toile in a job that eats away at your soul and leaves you feeling hollow and devoid of energy and vitality. You are meant to live a joyous rewarding abundant life.
It is not possible to be completely happy when you are not living on purpose. If you find yourself day dreaming whilst at work it is because you are not following your passion, if you pray for a better life you are not following your passion and if you find excuses for not going to work, you are not following your passion and therefore you can never be truly fulfilled in life.
If you are thinking that following your passion and living on purpose means that you must start your own business or become self-employed think again. Who you work for is not really important. It does not matter if you become an employer or an employee what matters is how you feel about your work. It is about finishing work at the end of the day and feeling proud of what you spent the last 8 hours doing. It is about looking forward to the next 8 hours that you will spend doing that job.
Living on purpose is about feeling worthwhile and content that you have contributed something of value for your effort. Let me ask you something, how many people do you know that absolutely love their job? If you know any I will bet it is not many. This is because we are raised to believe that we must get a “good secure” job and stay in it for the rest of our working lives and then retire on a small pension and be grateful for it. That’s not living; that’s existing; and there is a big difference between the two.
So how do you discover what your true purpose and passion really are?
Start by answering these few questions: -
1. What do you like to do? Write a feel good list; include all the things that you like doing that make you feel happy and joyous whilst doing them. E.g. petting my cat, walking on the beach, watching my kids playing, cooking, writing short stories.
2. What skills do I possess? Write a list of the things you are good at. I.e. computer literate, good communication skills, excellent bookkeeper or accountant etc.
3. What are my hobbies? Knitting, shopping, movies, fishing etc.
4. What am I passionate about? Global warming, the environment, child education etc.
By taking a few moments to answer these questions, you will find that a pattern may begin to emerge, you may begin to get a sense of what it is you enjoy most and this will lead you to discovering what your passion really is. From there it is simply a matter of finding a career that allows you to be truly fulfilled and valued in your work.
