Taking steps towards learning how to earn extra money on the world wide web is no easy feat to achieve. But one thing that is certain is that it is a feat that is achievable, if and when you decide to give it a go, you'll be pleasantly surprised at the outcome, once you've learnt the 'ropes'.

It is possible. But, there is no such thing as instant cash, or the proverbial cash cow, churning out hundreds of dollars of cash daily.

Well I guess you can, if you are prepared to spend about 20hrs a day working online. But there is a learning curve in pursuing the dream to earn money on the internet.

Working online to earn money is not new to many people, and people abound from many countries, with most spending thousands of dollars just learning how to earn extra money or a full income over the web.

With the economic downturn that in one way or another, has spread across the world, it has more than ever become a popular topic that has struck a chord of interest in many minds.

People have lost their jobs, or about to. Mothers are staying at home because they have children who need their almost total attention.

Some of you may be retired, but not yet tired, and need extra money to augment the little you have to fall back on. And we mustn't forget the teeming youths in dire need of employment, constantly looking for ways to get on in life.

Maybe you have an ailment and cant work anymore, but still have a sharp brain and inquisitive mind. You may wish to simply work for yourself and be your own boss.

Whatever your reasons for earning an income online may be, you need to have the ability to actually sit down and get started.

First you must be ready to put in at the least a couple of hours a day to at get some training, and this is essential, but quite easy. There is plenty of free information online that will teach you how to earn extra money on the web. So there is no excuse not to get started.

The first major challenge is the ability to actually sit down and get started. When you do, you have taken your 'first baby steps'. You must be willing to go into this with an open mind and a positive attitude.

There is no such thing as getting rich quick, short of robbing a bank, and getting caught to face the law somewhere along the line.

Once you have that mindset, then you're fine!

Setting up a real business plan takes many things into consideration. Don’t go in headlong without really giving it much thought. Just diving in is a great recipe for disaster! You must first plan on how you want to earn extra money online before proceeding.

Lets say you don’t have a clue as to starting off. That’s fine because we've all been there. What you first have to think about is what people need. In other words, search for a market that has money to spend. This is also referred to as a niche.

Don't worry too much about competition because it's better to have a huge demand with lots of competition than having no demand and no competition. You can't sell to a market that almost doesn't exist, no matter how few people are in it.

Learning how to earn extra money online requires that you

• Think as a consumer. You purchase things all the time so you have an idea of what people really need, and the reasons why they need to buy.
• Look at your own hobbies or things of interest to you. A product that you are knowledgeable about is easy to write about and sell. This does not mean you cant sell other stuff you don’t have much interest in. Some are able to pull that off, especially if you have a good head for marketing.
• Think outside the box! You most likely possess some skills, hidden or obvious, so find out what skills you have that can help you with your 'earning money on the internet' business model. If you can write, why don’t you consider freelancing as a copywriter or ghost writer. Or you can publish articles on web 2.0 sites, writing about anything, how to do things or where to buy things and why. Or simply sell on eBay!
• Think about the fact that you can produce a product, could be arts, crafts, or even something as simple as writing an e-Book and selling such online. However, if you don’t have a product to sell (most don’t), you might simply consider affiliate marketing, which is basically selling other peoples products. There are hundreds of thousands of products out there that need a mass drive to reach buyers in every corner of the world.

You will be amazed at how many things are out there to do that you should be good at. As an example, if you are good at designing websites, you might want to consider either a membership site model or a site flipping model. But whatever you do, always go for your strengths, as thing will flow easier for you and you will be able to get into the business faster and with relative ease.

At this point in time, you need to make realistic goals and realistic expenses to achieve these goals. Though you can learn how to earn extra money on the web for free if you search well, you will need to invest a lot of your time so that you can run your business successfully. It's really a matter of spending time or spending money because there is no free lunch in this.

It's Time or Money. That is what you have to know and accept, before you continue with your next move.

How do you know if your plans will become profitable? You simply make projections. You may ask yourself.....

• How many products will I have to sell to make X amount?
• How often will I have to sell to reach my goals?
• If i'm selling an item for $25, does it pay me to expend advertising money on it, based on the amount of potential buyers traffic I am expecting?
• Is the demand high enough to met my projections?
• Should I go for seasonal items or non-seasonal items?
• How many articles do I have to write and submit for sale, to reach my expectations?
• Should I just sell one product, or should I sell multiple products across a niche, or multiple products across many niches?

All this and many more questions have to be considered before you proceed with your business of earning extra money online. But any which way you go, there is a corner for you out there, somewhere, somehow. Determination can only be achieved if you persevere and try to be patient.
