In Part 1 of this series I spoke about the quiet fears many people have due to the economic downturn that has been manifesting all over the world. These fears are prompting many people to resort to finding a way to earn money on the internet.

In part 2 here, I'm going to tell you about how i started to work towards it. I first chose the path of Affiliate marketing to help me earn money on the internet because I think its the easiest option when it comes to an online business.

I had decided from the start to go through my learning curve without expending money but putting in a lot of my time. I have a lot of that. That wasn’t' easy to achieve, but I can say that I have spent roughly $50 in my whole 7 months quest to make money online. And its been more than worth it because I've earned my investments back.

CHOOSE YOUR NICHE BEFORE YOU TRY TO EARN MONEY ON THE INTERNET

After reading through Part 1, you now should now have a good idea of what you are passionate about pursuing. Everyone has a special interest they may be seeking. And you know something that is of value to others seeking something online. Being interested and passionate makes it easier for you to work and have some fun in the process. But you must work for it.

Let me open up your mind to some more ideas that you can use as a starting point in helping you choose your niche.

• What are your hobbies?
• What do you do for recreation?
• Do you have natural talents that can give you ideas to broaden?
• What books or topics do you like to read about.
• What do you like talking about?
• At your previous place of work, what body of knowledge have you learnt?
• Are you an expert at caring for children, the sick or the elderly?
• Are you a builder, a contractor, a real estate agent of a woodworker?
• What kinds of movies do you tend to like most?
• What have you learnt or heard of today?
• Are you a people manager? Do you know how to organise things?
• Do you teach or have a knack for explaining things to people?
• Do you love to cook and have a head full of recipe ideas?
• Can you talk or counsel people over the telephone?
• Are you a scientist or into research?
• Can you create products? Any type of product? Can you design?
• Are you a problem solver?
• What are the problems encountered while bringing up a child?
• What are gardening problems and how can they be solved?
• What have you bought recently that does not work?

The 20 ideas listed above are only a small fraction of things you can think about. The final concepts you choose will form a foundation for your online business, and if it really turns you on, you wont be working too hard because you'll be having fun. Focus on the topics you love!

After your decisions have been made projecting your plans have to come next. Now that you have your chosen niche, you want to know how profitable and lucrative your narrowed down choices will be. The next step required is to do an extensive research and find out where the profitability lies. If your projection is to make one sale a day, then your plan must be to find the item that has thousands of people searching daily for it.

Remember that taking steps towards learning how to earn extra money on the internet is no easy feat but one thing that is certain is that it is a feat that is achievable in an easy manner if you love what you choose.

Now assuming you have a good idea of what you may do, and you have a list of quite a few targets that may be of interest to you, you need to find out if the demand for your target is worth the chore.

There are quite a few ways to go about this, but the fastest and the best way to get answers is by doing a keyword research. The keyword is the word best describing your interest.

Keyword research is one of the most important things that we do online. It can be very time consuming depending on how deep you need to go in order to get keywords that you are happy with, but it is well worth the effort and will pay a great return if done correctly. In order to do effective keyword research you need a keyword tool. This is an essential tool that you need and will need to go back and refer to always. For this purpose you should to be using Word Tracker or Google Keyword Tool. These are free tools, and absolutely everyone has access to it.

Lets say you wish to sell wigs, or children toys or pickled pigs feet! As I said, have a broad as is possible list. You will have a better chance of being able to narrow it down when you've done a thorough research.

For now don’t worry about the competition. Not yet. For now you want to know how many people are looking for whatever it is you are interested in selling. You need to have a good idea about the demand, because there is no point in selling anything that has no demand, even with little competition.

Now you have your chosen keywords you can go to Google search box, type in your first keyword on your list and hit search. When your search page comes on, check on the right side of your screen and take note of how many Adwords campaigns (advertisements) are showing up. If you find a good number of the adverts showing up, this is a sign that your keywords have a good potential. This is because people are paying to advertise your choice and you might just have found something good to promote. If you don’t see any campaign, or just one or two, forget it and go to the next item on your keyword list.

You need to promote things advertisers are paying for if you intend to make money from your keyword choice.

There are many things that go into deciding which keywords are the right ones to work with. Some keywords do get a lot of visitors' traffic but don't get much sales, so you cant earn with those.
