Disney Princess Bedroom
72I think one of the secret joys of being a parent is being able to decorate our childrens' bedrooms in a whimsical fashion. Both little girls and little boys have favorite characters or toys that they like and it is fun to bring a whole little fantasy world to life inside their bedroom based around the things they love most.
My own daughter is too old now and she won't allow me to do these sorts of things anymore (unless I'm prepared to paint the room black!), but I remember when she was little and liked things that were pink and sparkly. My favorite rendition of her room was during the princess period and and so she had a really adorable Disney Princess bedroom.
I still have quite the soft spot for the Disney princesses, so I thought it would be fun to help you design a bedroom for your own princess.
Designing a Bedroom for your Princess
The first thing you want to start thinking about is how far do you want to go? Will just getting some Disney princess bedding and a few accessories be enough? Or do you want to redesign the whole room, starting with the walls?
I like to reimagine the entire space so let's think about your daughter's new royal chambers and some different possibilities.
Painting the Walls
Okay, one thing to think about here. Which princesses does your daughter love? Are you going for a classical princess theme with Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty and Aurora? Or does your daughter love Snow White or Princess Ariel?
Before deciding on a color for the walls, I think it is a good idea to take a look at the colors that you'll find in the bedding. If you are going for a classic Disney princess theme, you will quickly notice that Pink is a predominate color! Since that's the case, it might be a bit overwhelming to paint or wallpaper the room pink as well.
What I like to do in this case is go with colors that blend nicely with the kinds of pinks you'll find in Disney products. Pastel yellows and blues work well. Or you could actually go with white walls dressed up with some Disney princess wallpaper borders. This will give the room a nice understated air and allow you to go a bit crazy when it comes to the bed itself, comforters, lamps and other accessories for the room.
Once the walls are done you can coordinate the carpeting or run and the drapes. I usually go with neutral colors for the carpet so it doesn't have to be changed when she decides she's not into princesses anymore. For the drapes, some gauzy fabric looks great in summer. Usually I will try and match it to the color of the bed canopy.

A bed fit for a princess
Next, there's the bed. If you want a
Disney Princess bed, you can definitely buy one specifically themed if
you are looking for a toddler bed. For a twin size or full size bed,
however, you can buy a regular full poster bed or a canopy bed and then
accessorize it with the princesses.
If you don't want to go with a heavy canopy bed, then it is easy to buy a bed canopy that can be hung over any bed and it really keeps the feel of the room a lot lighter. Here's a Disney princess bed canopy, but also consider just plain colored canopies in white and pink or another color that matches your daughter's favorite princess decor.
Once the walls and the bed are taken care of, then it's time to think about bedding and accessories for the room. So what I've put together is a couple of other hubs with ideas for bedding and accessories appropriate for a Disney Princess. Take a look at some of these.
