does technology exploit humanity?

No robotic fears for me.

I don't really go in for the usual, dare I say it, cliche fear syndrome of computers and technology taking over the world and exploiting human beings in the process. Let's not forget who designed and built those pinnacles of technological advancement. It's people making tools to suit their own purposes.

That is not to say that computers, machines and technology can never be used for nefarious purposes. Considering some people are less than 'nice' in a moral sense, it stands to reason that one could design or use a piece of technology to oppress or hurt one's fellow man. But can you then blame the machine for this or is the person pushing the buttons?

I believe that as human beings we bear the ultimate responsibility and that blaming technology is a cop-out. Nuclear energy can provide a carbon-free energy source but nuclear technology can also obliterate an entire city as in the case of Nagasaki and Hiroshima. Ours is the choice; the buck stops with us.

Consider, though, that one of the higher aims of AI technology is to be able to mimic human thought. What assurance do you have that the technologies we create will not surpass us? I'm not saying it will, necessarily; I'm just wondering what makes you certain that it won't?

I'm not sure about technology not posing a threat. I just don't have that inordinate fear of it that some people seem to have. Even with the technology we have today it's very easy to cause harm to our fellowmen. It's the people pulling the trigger that I'm afraid of.
