In the early days of DOS all we had was the command prompt, and all was good. But then someone thought wth the advent of the mouse that we should have some graphical way to move files or start programs in DOS.

Around the time of DOS 4.0 came DOS SHELL. The first graphical style shell for DOS. This also looks alot like the first version of WINDOWS 1.0. If you have a dos mouse driver installed, (mouse.sys), you could actually point and click in DOS SHELL and copy /move files.

DOS SHELL was disconitnued as a standard part of DOS around 6.0 but could be included on a supplemental disk depending on what version of DOS you got. The cousin IBM PC DOS kept DOS SHELL until about version PC DOS 2000 (which you could get on CD).

The really good thing is that if you happen to have the DOS SHELL files you can copy them from a DOS 4-6 disks into MS DOS 6.22 and use it there!

Would you like to obtain MS DOS SHELL? Microsoft says you can get the DOS 6.22 Supplemental Disk here:
